The Speed Sensor is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This sensor monitors the rotational speed of the drum and communicates with the control board to ensure the correct spin speeds during the wash and spin cycles. It helps maintain optimal performance and balance, contributing to efficient washing and energy usage.

Over time, the speed sensor can become faulty due to wear and tear, electrical issues, or damage from vibrations. If the sensor fails, the washing machine may not operate correctly, leading to various performance issues.

Symptoms of a bad speed sensor include:

  • Washing machine not spinning or agitating
  • Unbalanced loads and excessive vibrations
  • Error codes related to spin or motor functions
  • Irregular or erratic cycle times

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Keith, Here is how you would diagnose the speed sensor. Diagnosing the Speed/Hall Sensor The speed/hall sensor can be diagnosed two • Enter the Service Mode and Run the Spin Test If the speed/hall sensor is bad or disconnected, ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? After 5 seconds, motor power will be stopped and a locked rotor fault will be set. If the washer continues to spin for at least 15 seconds, the speed/hall sensor is good. • Test the Voltage From connector pins 3 through 5 on the J602 should read approximately 9 VDC. Pins 1 through 5 should read approximately 4.5 VDC while rotating the basket.

Tim, if suds are still occurring, the unit would need to be put through a normal cycle while empty with one cup of vinegar added to the water once the unit has filled. Once the suds have been cleared thoroughly, the unit should operate properly. If not, the next step would be pressing and holding the start button (when the washer is in standby) until all of the LEDs blink. An error code should appear if the main control has identified a failure. If not, the main control WH22X38441C would be the likely cause of failure.

Jeff, It would be recommended to put the unit into a service diagnostic mode using the tech sheet located inside of the unit on the front cabinet and see if there are any stored error codes. The error code will guide you to what may be going on with the unit.
