This surface burner valve switch mounts on the gas valve stem and signals the spark module when you turn the knob. Replacing a faulty switch restores consistent clicking and reliable ignition on the affected cooktop burner. What it does:

  • Mounts to the surface burner gas valve and closes the ignition circuit when the knob is turned to Lite
  • Sends power to the spark module to create the clicking needed to ignite the flame
  • Symptoms may include: burner won't spark, intermittent ignition, continuous clicking with knobs off, or a burner lights only when another knob is turned
What's included:
  • One valve switch
Install notes:
  • Disconnect electrical power and shut off gas supply; allow the cooktop/range to cool
  • Remove the knob and front panel or manifold cover to access the valve area
  • Note wire positions, transfer the wires to the new switch, and secure it on the valve stem in the same orientation
  • Reassemble, restore power and gas, then test burner ignition

Duane, unfortunately, as the manufacturer has discontinued the spark switch Y0042053 for your model and have not provided a suitable replacement number, we could not guarantee that an alternative would work or fit properly.

Nawlins for Model Number JGP960SEA1SS

The igniters on my cooktop fire erratically, when the cooktop is not in use. This happens on its own, and sometimes when something is plugged into the same circuit as my cooktop, that will cause it to spark. The cooktop works fine ignition wise and all the igniters work. I have tried changing the outlet to rule out a polarity issue, but it still does it. Is there a way to put a Ohm meter on the switches to figure out which one is bad, and I noticed that there are two different switches on your schematic for item 323, whats the difference. I have a feeling its from either debris or from liquid spilling into them, I have tried using a hair dryer to dry them and put some WD 40 in them to displace the moisture but still the same issue. Also there is a spark module listed, but I am getting spark so I do not feel that this is the issue.

Nawlins, The issue that you are having with your unit would be in the switches. You will want to do a continuity test on them in the off position and if they have continuity then they are bad. The switches for the front burners are part number WB24K5078 and for the rear burners the switch is part number WB24K5083.

Hello Papa John. Your model requires three different valves. The right rear, and center burner is part number: WB21K5030, the right front and left front is part number: WB21K5031 and left rear is part number: WB21K5032. The price of the burner bowl seal is for one burner. It is available in two colors black part number WB32M8 and grey WB32M10. The black seal is quite a bit cheaper. Hope this helps.
