The Switch Gas Valve is an OEM part for GE ranges. It is responsible for controlling the flow of gas to the burners, allowing them to ignite and maintain a steady flame for cooking.

Causes of a bad switch gas valve can include wear and tear over time, buildup of debris or grease, or damage from repeated use or accidental impact. These issues can hinder the valve's ability to regulate gas flow effectively.

Symptoms of a bad switch gas valve include:

  • Burners not igniting
  • Irregular or weak flame
  • Gas odor near the stove
  • Inconsistent burner performance

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Henry, Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not list the harness for the switches and for this you would just need to get high temp wires and connectors to replace damaged wires.

The igniters keep sparking unless I unplug the cooktop. I believe that one of the igniter switches has shorted out. Most likely, the switch for the largest burner is shorted, as was able to get them to stop for a while by wiggling the switch fro above. My questions are: 1. Do you think that one of the switches is shorted and causing the problem, or is the problem with the spark igniter? 2. Can I disconnect the switches one by one to determine which one is shorted ? 3. How do I go about removing the glass stove top to gain access to the switches? Do I need to remove the entire unit from the countertop, or can this repair be done from above ? This is a glass cooktop and I'm not sure if it's supported by the glass, or if the metal pan underneath supports the unit? Thank you.

Jim, The most likely cause for the left front burner clicking and igniting intermittently would be a faulty ignition switch part number WB24T10071.

I believe my right front burner's igniter switch is bad. I get a spark on all 4 burners when I turn 3 of the 4 switches to "light", but not this one. Now to replace it, I had to cut off the 3 tiny screws per burner and remove the 4 bowls. Now the entire unit lifts up, but I need to remove the glass top from the housing in order to get to the switch. Is it just glued? I can't just pry because it is glass and there may be a clip somewhere. thanks, Hugo

Hugo, You're pretty much on target, it does sound like the igniter switch WB24T10071 has failed, probably due to water or a spill over when cooking. Once you've removed the screws, burner bases and knobs, you should be able to lift the glass cooktop off the burner box base. There usually is a foam "cushion" seal between the glass and the burner box, it can hold the glass down and be a bit difficult at times. You may need to slide a putty knife or other flat blade tool between the glass and burner box, but be very careful, The glass is tempered high temperature glass and can shatter at the least bit of pressure. The replacement screws and washers are WB1X1420D and WB1X1421D. You also need to remove power, and turn off the gas to the cooktop before you start. And be very careful with the burner and tubes when you separate the drip bowls from the burner bases.
