This magnetron assembly produces the microwave energy used to heat food and includes a built-in thermal cutoff for overheating protection. Replacing a failed magnetron restores heating performance and safe operation in microwave ovens. What it does:

  • Generates high-frequency microwaves that cook and warm food.
  • Thermal cutoff helps stop operation if the magnetron overheats.
  • Commonly replaced when the oven stops heating, heats intermittently, or has weak heating.
  • If the oven produces loud humming, arcing, or unusual burning smells.
What's included: One magnetron assembly with attached thermal cutoff. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and unplug the appliance before service.
  • High-voltage components (magnetron and capacitor) can retain lethal charge — discharge the capacitor and follow safety procedures.
  • Handle the magnetron carefully; avoid touching terminals or the ceramic output window.

Jeremy, as the turntable is operating, the thermostats and door switches are operating properly. With the power cord unplugged and the capacitor discharged, the magnetron, transformer, capacitor, and diode would need to be tested to identify if they are within operational parameters. If one of them fails, that particular part would need to be replaced. If they check ok, the failure would be in the main control.

Jacob, the thermostat with the two red wires is a normally open thermostat that operates the vent motor when it senses temperatures of 158°F and it would not affect the microwave power flow. However, the bottom thermostat WB20X10059 located on the base, the magnetron thermostat WB20X10061 on the magnetron, and the cavity thermostat WB20X10060 located at the top of the microwave can prevent voltage from reaching the control if one of them fails and does not have continuity.

Al, The Magnetron TCO WB27X11095 works similar to a thermostat, when the magnetron tube gets too hot, the circuit will "open" and eliminate the power to the "high side" cooking components. On some brands and models, the Magnetron TCO is a "one shot" fuse. and when that circuit "opens" you have to replace the TCO.
