Nick January 14, 2015 for Model Number JGB281DERBB My stove was previously converted to LP from NG. I would like to convert it back to NG. I purchased the conversion kit for the burners, but I am at a loss for how to convert the regulator. When I removed the hex nut on the regulator, it looks like I just need to flip it for it to work with NG. I called GE, and they refused to help.
1 Answer Hello Nick, You are correct. All that has to be done to the gas valve is to flip the valve stop. This one appears that the red cap should be situated on the opposite end of the brass nut and re-attached. Be sure to leak test with lightly soaped water, (one teaspoon of liquid soap to one quart of water), before attempting to light the unit or reconnecting the unit to the power supply. Read More...
Dawn May 27, 2014 for Model Number JGBP88BEL3BB I have a GE gas range. There is a massive propane smell coming from the oven even when it is not in use. If I open the oven door, the smell is very strong. Any ideas? Thanks!
1 Answer Dawn it sounds like the oven safety valve is open and would need to be replaced. The part number is WB19K10043. Read More...
Robert December 30, 2013 for Model Number PGB918SEM4SS A GE Profile range - model PGB918SEM4SS has a valve control assembly (part AP4484217) that has a oven gas shut off valve. It is a lever of sorts. I need to know which way to move the lever for ON and which way for OFF. It seems to have threepositions - lever up; lever partially down; lever all the way down.
1 Answer Robert, The tab on the gas valve for on or off should be in the down position for on and up for off. Read More...
Troy October 07, 2013 for Model Number jgb805sep1ss Both my igniters on the gas ge stove have blown. The dual gas value I just purchased states that it is not to be used with 120volts. The volts coming from the board feeding the ignites and value is 120. What do I need to replace?
1 Answer Hello Troy. The voltage supplied to the valve from the igniters is 3.2 to 3.6 VAC. If there is power to the igniters and they do not work, replace the igniters. If no power, replace the control on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Rob July 19, 2013 for Model Number jgbp87sem1ss My oven is not working properly. It was taking a long time to preheat and I noticed it was having problems igniting. The hot surface Igniter could probably be replaced but that does not seem to be the immediate problem. I though the orifice might have been dirty so I removed the burner tube and unscrewed the orifice and cleaned it. It still does not work properly when reassembled. When the igniter is hot and the gas valve should open I can stick my finger in the burner tube over the orifice for a second and then it lights the burner. Any ideas what the problem would be? The appliance is LP and has been converted.
1 Answer Hello Rob. It sounds like the igniter is weak. Test for 3.2-3.6 volts AC at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3.
