The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for GE washing machines. It controls the flow of water into the washer during the fill cycles. The valve opens and closes to allow the correct amount of water to enter the machine based on the selected wash cycle and settings.

You should replace this water inlet valve if it becomes defective. A bad water inlet valve can cause several issues such as improper water levels, slow filling, or no water entering the washer at all. These problems can be due to sediment build-up, electrical faults, or mechanical wear.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • Washer not filling with water
  • Slow filling or low water pressure
  • Leaking or dripping water from the valve area
  • Incorrect water levels in the drum

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Hello Randy. No motor response. Lost communication between control and drive motor. Check Motor - t10 tumble, t11 spin, t14 spin. Check connections/cables between controls. Power down (unplug) washer, wait 30 seconds and retry - if reoccurs, replace inverter.

Will, 2 things can cause the unit water lines to chatter. The water pressure being too low or the screens on the water valve being clogged. The other thing is the water valve being faulty. Check the water pressure to the unit to make sure that it is good and make sure that the screens on the water valve are clean. If these check ok then you will need to replace the water valve WH13X10023.

When I ran the error code test I come up with codes E22, E23 and E70. I checked the water supply, hoses, filters/screens and everything is good. I ran the t08 hot water test and it failed. Water would trickle out but the machine would eventually time out. The t09 cold water test passed with no issues. I'm assuming that this would be a faulty water valve since it seems to be getting power to partially operate the hot and fully operate the cold valves. In regards to the E23 error I ran the t06 water level control test and it passed with no issues. No leaks are detected. Regarding the E70 error code, it only shows up intermittently. Acording to the directions it says to separate the control from the control housing and clean. If that doesn’t repair the problem, replace the control. What is the control? Is that referring to the control board? Thank you for your help.

1 Answer

Jeff, You will first want to check the strainers on the hot water valve and check to make sure that it is not plugged up with debris. If it is clear then you want to replace the water valve. When they are referring to the control they are talking about the main control board.

The washer starts normally. It fills up just fine, but then only runs for about 10-11 minutes and then drains the water and stops. When this occurs the timer flashes, and you can start it again by hitting the start/pause button, but then it proceeds to fill up again and do the same process for 10-11 minutes. After running the code diagnostics test, I get the code E22, which hints to replacing the water valve. I also scroll the nob and E23 appears. I am unable to run the t08 and t09 tests...is it really the water valve?

1 Answer

Jared, Both of these error codes are in association with a fill problem. Here is what you will want to do. Ensure that the manual water valves are fully open. Check if the water strainers on the solenoid valve assembly are clogged. Check for obstruction inside the inlet water hoses. Ensure that the solenoid valves do not leak when the valves are deenergized and the washer is powered down. Measure the coil resistance for both valves, If the range is outside of 1000 - 1250 ohms at room temp then replace solenoid. Normally on the E23 error the valve would need to be replaced.

I have ran the test codes that are available by unplugging the machine for 30 sec, the hit signal and delay start twice in a row as im suppose to. I come up with error code 22 which states either poor water flow, clogged line etc, this washer is a one day warranty situation its used but still almost 500 with my travel to pick it up. I can get a full refund today only but the error code says that if all else is good then the water solenoid valve is bad or the water inlet valve some say. I have ran test T08 T09 which is to test the filling up of hot water , and cold separately but neither of those test will produce any water. SO no matter which wash process I use, the washer fills up so far and just stops doing anything it says its washing but its not and after a few minutes it pumps the water out and start to fill the second time like it would normally . From what I can understand the washer only has 8 minutes to fill up if not then it wont work at all. I have never had a front load machine but the water only gets one third way up the window at most. So if the solenoid valve is keeping me from using this washer I certainly don't mind to buy it and install the part I'm good mechanically but ,on this washer im going by the only error code the machine throws, if you think im on the right path then I will go ahead and buy the part. If not I need to get it back to the used store I bought it from .

Hello Jim, The water will fill no more than 1/3 way. If the unit is not operating and the unit is giving a code stating that there is not enough water then you would want to check the pressure hose and pressure switch to make sure that they are good.

This a follow up question. Your answer is as follows: "Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the valve AP3884039 needs to be replaced. However, if the valve is good, then the water level switch AP5324715 may be the issue with the unit. The power surge may have damaged it." Is the water level switch the same as the pressure switch? I have run t06 (pressure switch test) and it does what it is supposed to. If it is not the same, then, is there a test for the water level switch? Thanks.

1 Answer

Hello JHS. Yes, it is the pressure switch, but sometimes they will pass the service test and still be bad, as will the water valve. Hope this helps.

Hi! I had a terrible power failure in my house, after which the washer's inverter burnt completely (basically made a couple of explosions while the machine was working). I had it replaced with a new one (from you guys). Then I noticed that the control board also had a couple of components burnt, so I had it replaced with a new one also. While before replacing the control board it was giving me many error codes, now it consistently only gives me error code 22, which should be the water valve. I have checked it several times and it's not clogged or it does not look damaged. All the washer does is to take in water, turn the tub back and forth a few times and stop. After a while, it drains the water out (after having used the liquid detergent), and starts blinking. If I press the start button (again and again), then it sort of repeats the same process, counts down, until finally it spins, and then it quits. Sometimes it does not even spin and I have to do it with the drain-and-spin cycle, which seems to be working okay. Most of the time the clothes are not even wet and definitely not clean. I run the diagnostics and still all the components seem to be working okay, including the water valve. I do not use hot water, so I always choose tap water in the cycle. Why do I get error 22? Thanks for your excellent service!

Hello JHS. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the valve WH13X10023 needs to be replaced. However, if the valve is good, then the water level switch WH12X10522 may be the issue with the unit. The power surge may have damaged it. Hope this helps.
