The Temperature Sensor is an OEM part for LG refrigerators, designed to monitor and relay the temperature inside the refrigerator to the control board. This component ensures that your refrigerator maintains the correct temperature to keep your food fresh and safe to eat.

Over time, temperature sensors can fail or become less accurate due to wear and tear, environmental factors, or electrical issues. This can lead to problems such as the refrigerator cooling too much or not enough, resulting in food spoilage or excessive energy consumption.

Symptoms of a bad Temperature Sensor include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer is too warm or too cold, despite setting adjustments
  • Unusual fluctuations in temperature, indicating the sensor is not accurately detecting or communicating the internal temperature
  • The refrigerator runs constantly or more frequently than normal, attempting to reach the desired temperature

This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Temperature Sensor (Part Number: OEM14012289)

Hello Jim. The DH error code means it is taking too long to try to defrost. Or the evaporator isn't rising to the temperature is supposed to reach. It sounds like you may have a defrost problem with the unit. Check and see if there is any frost build up on the evaporator coils in the freezer. If so, you will need to test the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat. They should read closed for continuity when cold. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. I will include a link at the end to assist you how to use the multi-meter if needed. If both parts are good, you will need to replace the main control board. Once the problem is repaired, you will need to thaw out the ice on the coils before the unit will operate properly. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Ken, You will want to remove the rear wall in the freezer and see if there is a frost pattern on the evaporator coils. You will want to look for a even pattern of frost from top to bottom. If the upper coils have frost but the lower does not then this would most likely be some type of sealed system issue and would need to have service to repair.

Dave, On the ceiling of the refrigerator and the freezer there is a slotted cover that you remove to expose the thermistor. To determine if the thermistor is good you would need to pull the unit out and access the control board. Disconnect the harness for the sensors and test the wires for the sensor for resistance. The resistance at room temp should be 5K ohms, at 36 degrees it should be about 14K ohms and at 0 it should be 42K ohms.

Gina, The sensor cover does not control the temperature in the refrigerator. The thermistor is what would do this and would want to test it for 5K ohms at room temp of 77 degrees.

Barry, You will want to check the frost pattern on the evaporator coil in the freezer. You will want to make sure that the coils have a nice even frost pattern on them. If they are impacted with ice then the issue will be a defrost issue in which you will want to do a continuity test on the heater and check the resistance of the defrost sensor to make sure that they are good. If there is not a full frost pattern top to bottom then the issue will be a possible sealed system issue in which you will need to get a service technician to check the unit.
