The Temperature Sensor is an OEM part for LG refrigerators, designed to monitor and relay the temperature inside the refrigerator to the control board. This component ensures that your refrigerator maintains the correct temperature to keep your food fresh and safe to eat.

Over time, temperature sensors can fail or become less accurate due to wear and tear, environmental factors, or electrical issues. This can lead to problems such as the refrigerator cooling too much or not enough, resulting in food spoilage or excessive energy consumption.

Symptoms of a bad Temperature Sensor include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer is too warm or too cold, despite setting adjustments
  • Unusual fluctuations in temperature, indicating the sensor is not accurately detecting or communicating the internal temperature
  • The refrigerator runs constantly or more frequently than normal, attempting to reach the desired temperature

This OEM LG part is also compatible with some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Lg Temperature Sensor (Part Number: OEM14012289)

Nicholas, Most of the time the water is building up because the defrost drain line is clogged. This unit has evaporator coils behind the rear cover in the refrigerator section that needs to be defrosted every 8 hours or so and the result is that frost turns to water and needs to drain out. I use a garden sprayer with hot water to pump out and spray down the tube till its clear after i have removed any ice build up. The drain hole will be under the coils possibly covered with ice.

Tk for Model Number 79571036010

Hello. My refrigerator is not getting cold enough. The compressor runs and cycles (turns on and off periodically), and the fridge section holds 38F, but the freezer only gets to about 25F. This had only changed recently, when it used to hold about 5F. There is no excessive frosting on the evap coil that I can see without pulling the panel, and I don't see any sign of a leak near the compressor (oil), and the condenser coils are clean and the fan is running. One other oddity is that when I cycle through the freezer settings on the front panel, it skips a couple of numbers, ie, button presses show 0, -1, -2 -3, -4 then skips -5, then shows -6, and also skips +7 in the above zero section Is the problem likely a bad sensor in the freezer section, a bad controller board, or a bad compressor or compressor charge? The unit is about 8 yrs old and had run without issue up until now.

TK, You will need to pull the rear panel and check the coils for a frost pattern. Half frost pattern while running indicates a sealed system issue and full frost pattern then probably the temp sensor if the compressor and fans are running. Don't forget the condenser fan in the back needs to be running also whenever the compressor is running. Condensor coils must be clean as well.

Rudy, it would be recommended that the evaporator is inspected to identify if there is a frost pattern. If there is not a frost pattern, with the compressor operating it would indicate a sealed system issue. If this is the case, an EPA certified individual would be necessary to identify what has failed in the sealed system. However, if there is a frost pattern blocking up the evaporator, this would indicate a defrost issue. The defrost heater 5300JK1005K and fuse (part of the defrost sensor control wire 6615JB2005N) can be tested by testing at the main control. At connection CON3 pin 9 to pin 2, there should be a resistance reading between 34 to 42O. The defrost sensor should measure more than 38KO if the evaporator is frozen up.

Tim, Here are the values for the freezer sensor -22°F / -30°C 40K, -13°F / -25°C 30K, -4°F / -20°C 23K, 5°F / -15°C 17K, 14°F / -10°C 13K, 23°F / -5°C, 10K, 32°F / 0°C 8K. For the refrigerator sensor the values will be 23°F / -5°C 38K, 32°F / 0°C 30K, 41°F / 5°C 24K, 50°F / 10°C, 19.5K, 59°F / 15°C 16K. Icing Sensor will be the same as the freezer sensor. Defrost sensor will be 23°F / -5°C 38K, 32°F / 0°C 30K, 41°F / 5°C 41K, 50°F / 10°C 19.5K, 59°F / 15°C 16K.

Bill, The temperature sensor for the refrigerator section will be 30K at 32 F and approximately 5K at room temp of 70 F. The sensor and thermistor should be the same reading for the refrigerator compartment.

Mark, You will need to gain access to the evaporator and check for a frost pattern on the coils. It sounds like you could have a leak or faulty compressor may be running not pumping the refrigerant. You should see the same frost coming to the evaporator and leaving.

KP, Your refrigerator would have to be about 115 degrees if that temp sensor was correct. You should have a reading of around between 25 to 30 k ohms. Sounds like your thermister needs replaced.
