The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM replacement part specific to LG washing machines. It is an electronic solenoid valve located near the water supply inlet ports that controls the flow of water into the washer tub. The inlet valve precisely regulates water levels during different phases like filling, washing, rinsing, and spinning cycles.

Causes of a bad water inlet valve can include worn or faulty electronic components, mineral buildup obstructing valve movement, or damage to seals and diaphragms.

Symptoms of a bad water inlet valve include:

  • Inability to properly fill the washer tub during cycles
  • Water leaking or flooding from the valve area
  • Erratic water temperature or varying fill levels between loads
  • Cycles failing to advance due to inadequate or unregulated water flow

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Rick, The water valve for this unit would be part number 5221EA1008F and will most likely take care of the problem you are having. Double-check the dispenser to ensure that it is not damaged or clogged.

J D for Model Number LG WT1101CW

Cold water keeps coming in at a low rate even when machine is off. Bought a water valve off Amazon. Installed it and when the water started coming in there was a lot of hammering noise coming from the water valve. Shut off machine and it continued until I cut off the water (hot and cold). Do you think the new valve was a cheapie and was not strong enough to close the valves, Hot and Cold? Reinstalled the old valve (same thing, cold water coming in) and I am thinking I should order an LG part to replace the old one! ???? Is there any possibility the voltage is not enough to completely close the valve?

1 Answer

JD, The water valve voltage is to open the solenoid and not close it. Check to make sure that the water pressure to the unit is not too high but it sounds likely that you will need a new water valve. The valve you got from somewhere else may not have been OEM and it is recommended to use OEM parts.

Brian, it would be recommended that the inlet valves are tested for 120VAC during the fill cycle. The yellow wire and blue wire solenoid would be tested for cold water, and the blue wire and red wire solenoid would be tested for hot water (both would be used for warm water and the hot water valve would be turned on only long enough to reach temperature). If the valves are receiving proper voltage but the water flow is low, the next step would be identifying if the hoses are clogged up. If the hoses are clear and are not pinched, then the water valve has failed and would need to be replaced.

Robert, You will want to check to make sure that there is 120 vac to the water valve. If there is power then check to make sure that the screen is not clogged and if it is not then the valve would need to be replaced. If there is no power then the control board would be the issue.
