Sabine August 30, 2024 for Model Number MTB2656AEW Looking to replace my Maytag freezer (MTP2656AEW) gasket (part 61004004; no longer available). Would this gasket kit work? I don't quite understand how it would be installed. How does one get a seal at the corners where the pieces butt up against each other? Also, how does the magnetic strip figure into the repair?
1 Answer Sabine, the universal door gasket TJ90SU2004 can be used with the model provided and the sections butted up against each other would be glued together. The magnetic strip would be inserted when gluing the pieces together. Read More...

Beverly January 16, 2020 for Model Number N/A After a long in-depth discussion via online chat with Samantha at AppliancePartsPros.com on Saturday, January 11, 2020, I ordered a universal gasket to replace the old one for our 20-cubic foot freezer. It arrived today and my husband and I did the replacement together. Unfortunately, the gasket does not work even as well as the one which had been on the freezer previously! Since putting on the new gasket, the door won't close completely. The gasket is not pliable as it should be. We have tried adjusting the door, but it is fine. It's the gasket. Please advise as to what we should do next. Thank you.
1 Answer Beverly, with the gasket set, a hairdryer can be used to carefully warm up the gasket until it is pliable. Usually, when a gasket comes from a manufacturer, it is slightly rigid and can even have wrinkles that are corrected by heating the gasket up to where it is pliable. The hairdryer would need to be far enough away that it doesn't overheat the gasket (generally around 8" while moving the hairdryer continuously so that it does not heat one specific spot).
