The Agitator is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component is responsible for moving the clothes through the water and detergent, ensuring thorough cleaning during the wash cycle. It features a central post with fins or blades that rotate back and forth to create a turbulent washing action.

Over time, the agitator can wear out or become damaged. Common causes of a bad agitator include exposure to heavy loads that strain the fins or blades, buildup of detergent or fabric softener residue, and general wear from frequent use.

Symptoms of a bad agitator include:

  • Clothes not being cleaned properly
  • Agitator not moving or making unusual noises
  • Agitator fins or blades being broken or worn down
  • Washing machine vibrating excessively during the wash cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Agitator (Part Number: OEM21060273)

Steve for Model Number MVWC565FW1

Washer started a loud electrical sound (Click) during slow agitation modes. It used to be a softer sound like the motor switching directions. Now a short electric tor sound and loud electrical click. The tub is moving. This goes on for a few minutes. Then drains. During other cycles it seems to be fine. It spins fine and fills and drains fine. Seems to clean clothes as always. I actually took agitator out and inspected and cleaned drive groves. it is not stripped. Unit is only 3 years old. This click is loud. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Steve, Check the pulley on the bottom of the unit and make sure that the nut is tight and the pulley is not loose. If it is then use some loctite on the threads and tighten it back down. Also, check to see if there are any stored error codes.

Donna, if the bedsheet can not be unwrapped from the agitator, the softener cup can be removed to access the agitator bolt. This bolt can be removed so that the agitator can be lifted up and out. This should allow the bedsheet to be removed at that point. However, there is a chance that this could cause a stain on any cloth that touches the drive shaft.

Scott, Try to get under the agitator with a rope and using leverage pull up on it. You may need to try and spray it with PB Blaster to help loosen it up.

Jon, The bolt would be taken out by turning it counter clockwise. You would want to spray some rust buster or pb blaster into it to try to get it loose.
