The Washer Door Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly is crucial for securing the washer door during operation, ensuring that the door remains closed and locked while the machine is in use. This helps prevent water leaks and ensures that the wash cycle completes safely and effectively.

You should replace the door latch assembly if it becomes faulty or damaged. Causes of a bad door latch assembly can include wear and tear over time, mechanical failure, or accidental damage from forcefully closing the door. A malfunctioning latch can prevent the washer from starting or cause it to stop mid-cycle.

Symptoms of a bad door latch assembly include:

  • The washer door not locking or staying closed
  • The washer not starting or pausing mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to door lock issues displayed on the control panel
  • Water leakage around the door area during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: Washer door latch, gray w/switches and ind. Light

Mo, If the door latch eventually locks, you don't need a replacement. You do need to check and align the door assembly to the loading door assembly opening, check for loose screws and door hinges as well. You also need to raise the washer top panel, and check the top support bracket, where the door latch assembly mounts, Check the bracket to see if it is distorted/bent in. You may need to straighten the bracket or use washers to "space" the latch assembly back to it's proper position.

Hello James, You will need to pull the tech sheet and follow the wiring diagram to troubleshoot the out-of-balance circuit. This will include the board, the inertial switch, two out of balance switches, and if there is a microswitch on the left rear shock, the manufacturer recommends this switch be removed and bypassed. If no problems are found, the machine control board or the motor control board are in question.

Jay for Model Number MAH5500BWQ

The washer wouldn't start right away. Then made a strange nose and showed "FL" on the display panel. Eventually the door to the washer wouldn't close all the way and at times still washes even with the door not closed properly. Then at times the washer goes back to making the strange sound and showing "FL". Do I need to just replace the front door or should I replace both the door and the whole latching unit. Which parts should I get. My washer is serial number B5260797GL.

1 Answer

Jay, With this issue you will need to check the door lock assembly as the FL is a failed to lock error. The unit has repeatedly tried to lock the door but cannot.

Ralph Anderson for Model Number MAH5500BWW

My washer is a Maytag Neptune front loader. S/N A6974062CX. Recently, and with increasing frequency, when we try to start the machine, there is a short buzz and a click, then the fault codes 'do' and then 'FL' appear. I presume that this means that the door latch assembly needs to be replaced. Have I interpreted the fault codes correctly? However, you have 2 different assemblies listed: (1) AP 6006371 and (2) AP 6006456. Which is the correct application for my machine?

1 Answer

Mike, The correct part number for the model and serial number you supplied is WP22003593 / WP22003593. The part is in stock and available at this time. Thanks,
