The Drive Belt is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It transmits power from the washer motor to the tub, causing it to rotate during wash and spin cycles

Causes of a worn drive belt can include repetitive cycles over years of use. The belt undergoes stress each time the tub is set in motion. Damage from slipping off pulleys during operation can also affect the belt.

Symptoms of a bad drive belt include:

  • The tub failing to turn or rotate during cycles
  • Abnormal noises coming from the drive system
  • Looseness, cracks, or visible wear to the drive belt itself
  • Reduced tub movement even when the cycle is running

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Drive Belt (Part Number: OEM18039120)

David, installing the drive belt is a little tricky but can be done. Place the belt around the motor pulley first, make sure it is towards the back of the pulley. Start the other end of the belt around the larger pulley and start turning the pulley, it will be very hard and it helps to have an extra set of hands to turn the pulley and at the same time, you are holding and feeding the belt around the pulley. Keep turning until the belt is on all the way.

Ravitej for Model Number 110.46462501

Received new belt. Impossible to install. Reviewed the video. And so many said so easy to do. Not finding that to be the case. It's just too tight. Walking it around yields nothing. Using a tool to help feed yields nothing. Checked the old belt and new one is a little smaller but the old one came off too easy so it was probably stretched. Do I need to hire an appliance repair person to come out and install. Or maybe just time to buy another washer. Wanted to keep this old machine running a little longer.

Ravitej, the belt will be tight when mounting it to the upper pulley. Getting the belt on as much as possible on the right side of the tub pulley and holding it in place is key when rotating the pulley to "walk" the belt into place. Unfortunately, there is not an easier way of installing this belt.

RB, I would have to say you have some debris or a nail or something stopping the unit from turning. Check on the inside to see if you feel any objects going thru the inner basket to the outer basket. Also, you can go underneath and remove the drain hose attached to the bottom of the outer tub and feel in there to see if you find something.

Gerry for Model Number WFW8300SW00

I have a problem with the drive belt . The part number on the belt is 8540101 and thats the old part number of my old belt. I have bought 2 belts using this part number and both belts are over 2" too short. My old belt measures 51" 1/8 as it is now. My washer is 7 years old and the ser. number is 1912637 . It was bought at Leon's in Canada . I have tried to find the belt on line without any luck and seems no one can tell me the length of the bet they have in stock. Has Whirlpool changed the length of the belt and this is why I am having this problem now.

Hello Gerry, The belt part number WP8540101 is the correct part number for your unit. When installing the belt you will put around the motor pulley first. Once around the motor pully you will start putting around the tub pulley. When you get to a point in which there is no more slack then you will turn the tub pulley so that the belt will slide on.
