John August 25, 2023 for Model Number KSSO36FMX01 I have this Kitchenaid side-by-side (model KSSO36FMX01) and the auto-defrost is not working. However, I am able to manually initiate a defrost cycle by using the control panel buttons to enter the unit's built-in Service Diagnostics Mode. When I do that, the heating unit does turn on and a defrost cycle successfully runs. So all the defrost components seem to be working but they are not ever getting turned on by the system control. Most diagnostics for refridgerator defrost problems point to the bi-metal or the Auto Defrost Control unit (ADC). I know my Bi-Metal is fine but I can't seem to find where the ADC is for this model. Does this model have one? If not, do you have any other suggestions for what is causing this problem? Thanks for any help you can provide. John
2 Answers John, based on the information provided, the failure would be in the main control W10219463. Unfortunately, this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available. Read More...
1 Answer Joe, The defrost thermostat on this refrigerator would have a "closed" circuit if the temperature is below 20 dgrs. F. and an "open"(infinite)resistance, if the temperature is above 50 dgrs.F. The defrost heater should have a resistance of 19 to 27 ohms if it needs to be checked as well. Thanks Read More...
