Joe January 05, 2015 for Model Number KBMS1454SSS1 Covr-Inlet part #AP3865977. Need to remove to replace with a new one. Do I use a screwdriver or some other tool to pry it off or is there a special tool that is needed. Don't want to damage the unit. Thanks.
1 Answer Joe, To remove the cover you will want to use a putty knife to pop it off. If you have a plastic one it will work better for not scratching the paint. If you do not have a plastic one put some tape on the blade of it to make sure that the paint does not get scratched. Read More...
Susan November 24, 2013 for Model Number KitchenAid KBMs1454SSS-0 I have owned this model for 7 years or so. A few years ago the covr started dripping (melting). After awhile, it stopped. Now, years later it started again. If I replace it, will it just happen again? Don't want melted plastic in my food. Reading the other entries, it appears as if this is a problem. I don't cook in the unit, just frozen foods, warming and the like, so I don't know why it would get too hot. Thank you.
1 Answer Hello Susan, When this occurs, it is usually moisture that has gotten behind or on the cover. The moisture absorbs the heat and causes the issue. You will need to replace the cover W11087199 and inspect, clean, and dry the area under the cover before installing it since this can damage the magnetron. Be sure to unplug the unit whenever removing any cover to prevent electric shock or electrocution. Read More...
Susan November 21, 2013 for Model Number KitchenAid KBMs1454SSS-0 My cover melted also, quite some time ago. The unit continues to function fine. The melting ceased for an extended time but has now started up again. (I have had the unit for six years or so.) First, this sounds like a problem seeing all the others comment about it. Second, what is the cause and if I put a new one on, won't it just happen again. Really don't want melting plastic dripping into my food.
1 Answer Hello Susan, You would just pry the cover off and install the new one. The cause for the hole would either be caused by moisture getting into the area or the magnetron is starting to fail. If moisture has gotten into the end of the magnetron, this would cause the magnetron to fail. If you don't replace the cover, the magnetron will fail prematurely. Read More...
Shirley L June 20, 2013 for Model Number KBMS1454RSS0 I see that I can get the part Covr-Inlet OEM Part Number AP3865977 for my Kitchen Aid microwave KBMS1454RSS0. My question is how do I replace it ... it does not look like there is anyway to remove it from the ceiling of the microwave. Is it pried off? The reason for replacement is a hole that formed from being melted. Is it safe to use as is? Was the melting caused from heating something to high of heat or from something within the microwave (the magnitron? ) Any advice would very much be appreciated.
1 Answer Shirly, You would just pry the cover off and install the new one. The cause for the hole would either be caused by moisture getting into the area or the magnetron is starting to fail. Read More...
Lonestarbill September 24, 2011 for Model Number KBMS1454s My cover too melted in the center. It looks like something splattered on to it and heated up enough to melt it. On the other hand, If it is the magnatron failing, how would I know that?
1 Answer Hi Lonestar. Tricky one, If the magnetron is still heating well, then is should be OK. If the inlet cover melted then it is safe to assume the heat was at a higher setting and the heating occured towards the interior top area. This part # is W11087199. Thank you. Read More...
Sue May 03, 2011 for Model Number kbms1454r I think this is the part..The inside of the oven there is a plastic rectangular cover that has melted in the middle. Is the oven safe to use? Can I replace this part myself or do I need to call for service. Thank you. Why would it melt?
1 Answer Hello Sue. The part you describe is used to bounce the waves across your microwave. If it's melted you migth want to look and make sure the magnetron is not failing. The correct cover for your unit is W11087199. Thanks! Read More...
