The Door Latch Assembly is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It securely fastens the dishwasher door closed during wash cycles to contain water, detergent, and wash motions within the tub. This dishwasher door switch assembly does not include the handle. It includes two switches and a holder.

Over time, latch components can wear from continual use and lose their ability to lock the door. Exposure to water and detergent may also cause corrosion or cracking.

Symptoms of a bad door latch assembly include:

  • The dishwasher door not closing fully or securely during cycles
  • Gaps around the door allowing water and air leakage
  • The door popping or opening unexpectedly mid-cycle
  • Dishwasher will not start

This Whirlpool part fits dishwashers from Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, and select Kenmore models.

Austin, Presumably, you've adjusted the door latch on the tub ? Then check and make sure there isn't anything on or in the rack tracks, Nothing stuck in the back of the tub behind or below the racks, Then remove the outer door panel, and check the hinges, the door support panel and hinge pins/frame for damage or distortion at/near the top of the door panel. Make sure the dishwasher is properly installed and secured to the cabinet and the door is properly aligned to the tub opening.

Oldschool, The door switches would not cause the lights to not come on and this issue will most likely be caused by a faulty timer.

Jeremy, The door latch would be unlikely to cause this issue. You will want to check for damaged wires between the board and the circulation pump.

Hello Rick, Turn the power off to the unit and verify no voltage is present. Remove the screws around the perimeter of the door and lift the door liner out of the way. Now when you look at the door latch there will be one screw holding it in position. Remove the wires and connect them to the new switches after they are positioned properly in the door latch assembly. Be sure when you put the new door latch in position that you only put in the one screw to the left because the screw on the right has to pass through the door liner also. Reassemble the unit in reverse order of disassembly. Turn the power back on and verify normal operation.

RC, The fill valve should have a resistance value of between 890 and 1090. You will want to check this from the control board from connector P2 pin 3 to Connector P10. This will also trace the circuit to make sure that there are no broke wires. To access the control board you will remove the screws around the perimeter of the inner door. Also check to make sure that the board is sending power through the same pins to the water valve. If not then the control is bad and if so then there is a wiring issue.
