Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Dryer Door Switch Kit (Part Number: OEM12960006)

1 Answer

Trent, the door switch can be tested with the power cord disconnected from the wall. The door switch should read continuity from yellow COM to brown NC when the door is closed. The red NO terminal would read continuity to the yellow COM when the door is opened. If this tests good, then the timer would need to be tested for voltage output and it should have 120VAC at the red wire terminal that leads to the start windings. It should also have 120VAC at the yellow wire terminal where it will go to the thermal fuse at the heater as well as on the blower housing before it goes to the run windings on the motor.

John for Model Number MDG8000AWW

My Maytag Dryer has a suspected defect on the Door Switch. I have yet to check it, but have checked the bulb and receptacle that are good. That only leaves the black (hot) wire and gray neutral wire, and of course the door switch. The hot wire is active, so that leaves the neutral that I need to check soon, and if OK leaves me to suspect the door switch. Dryer works fine except for light not going on when door open. The door switch has three wires, blue for common, gray for NC, and a double yellow wire for NO. But your questions and answers says the yellow to be NC and Gray to be NO, while the model # for my dryer video for door switch part shows just the opposite where gray is NC and yellow is NO. It can't be both ways. My drawing before taking off wires was Yellow NO and Gray NC. which I think is correct - do you confirm this to be true. If True, I only need to most likely replace switch, not reverse connections. And will order the part if continuity is defective for light in drum area. Again, what is the proper wire connection? PS, Have ordered several parts previously and everything went fine, only light not working.

John, According to the wiring diagram the Blue wire will go to the Common, the Gray would go to the normally closed and the double yellow will go to Normally open.

James, You would just reconnect the wiring as the oem specifications and just use the 2 terminals and use reuse the NC connector.

Larry, This issue would not be caused by the door switch causing the buzzing. This will be an issue with the motor switch that is bad and will have to replace the motor of the unit to correct this.

Larry for Model Number LDE8410ACW

I have a older Maytag dryer Model LDE8410ACW that is not working properly. The unit would not run unless the door switch was held in and the drum was spun by hand. I replaced the motor and the belt. It ran fine for 5-6 loads then the it stopped working. I found that if I left the door open it ran fine but as soon as I closed the door it stopped. I then replaced the door switch and it ran fine for 5-6 times then I had the same problem. Thinking I had a defective switch I replaced the second switch and again it worked fine for 5-6 loads then again it stopped and only ran when the door was open. When I was changing the motor I noticed one of the drum rollers seemed stuck but as soon as I turned it by hand it freed up and seemed ok. I tried to reverse the leads to the switch but it made no difference. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

1 Answer

Larry, You will want to ensure that the rollers are not sticking but with the unit running with the door open but not running when it is closed sounds like the door switch is not wired correctly. Also check for wiring that may be damaged that could cause this issue.

Robbie, On the door switch kit, If your original only has 2 yellow on one connector and 1 white then this would indicate that you do not have a light in the unit. The 3rd terminal is for the light when the door opens if one was involved. Would recommend testing the thermostats on the unit for continuity.
