The Pump Filter is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This filter sits within the pump assembly and acts as a barrier to food particles and debris, preventing them from getting into the circulation pump. By doing this, the filter contributes to the dishwasher's cleaning performance and helps maintain the appliance's overall functionality.

Causes for a malfunctioning Pump Filter can include the buildup of food particles, mineral deposits, or other types of debris, as well as wear and tear from regular use.

Symptoms of a bad Pump Filter include:

  • Inadequate cleaning of dishes
  • Unusual sounds coming from the pump area
  • Water failing to drain effectively
  • Error messages related to water circulation or drainage issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Filter-Pump (Part Number: OEM18144093)

Keith, while it would be possible, we would not recommend doing this if the filter is damaged as it can allow large debris through causing damage to the pump impellers.

Jeff for Model Number KDTM404ESS3

The pump filter, part #W11084156, jammed into the pump motor and broke, which resulted in only a humming sound when machine was powered up. Waited 3 weeks or so for new pump filter to arrive, and when I put it in I could not see why the same thing wouldn't happen again. The pump filter does not securely lock into place, and is kind of loose under the housing. This makes me wonder if there is a missing part? The exploded view shows the 'volute' and the 'ring', which are in place, and also the 'spring', which is not present. Does the spring act to keep the pump filter in place?

1 Answer

Jeff, the pump filter is not going to lock into place as it sits on the volute W10723279 and ring W10380239. The spring W10772270 is going to be a spring washer (wave washer) that would sit in front of the filter against the housing. The spring will help to keep the filter in place.
