This electrical safety fuse opens the circuit when a short or overcurrent occurs. Replacing a blown fuse can help restore power after the root cause is corrected, protecting controls and wiring from further damage.

  • Protects the appliance by interrupting power during overcurrent or short-circuit events
  • When open/blown, the appliance may be completely unresponsive
  • Helps prevent damage to control boards and wiring during faults
  • Often fails after a component shorts or a power surge occurs
What's included: 1 fuse
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before servicing
  • Use a multimeter to test the fuse for continuity; replace only if open
  • Install a fuse with the exact same rating and form factor as the original
  • If the new fuse blows again, stop and diagnose the underlying fault; consider service for high-voltage systems

Microwave is about 20 years old. I have replaced some of the interlock switches within the last couple years. Microwave has been working fine. Today popped something in to cook, programmed for a few second cook time, and pushed start. Microwave went dead. Checked house breaker; no problem. Removed from wall, removed cover, found 20A fuse failed. Replaced the fuse with 20A fuse, light worked, clock worked. Fuse failed immediately on trying to cook. Seeking troubleshooting guidance. Thanks.

Jim, You will want to check your door switches again as this would be the most likely cause for the fuse to blow.

Craig, all the "in line" fuses for microwaves are considered "slow blow" fuses. That way the manufacturer can compensate for the possible voltage and amperage fluctuations in the power supply to the microwave and high voltage components in the machine.

Jorgo, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty door switch on the unit and will want to test the door switches.

Hello Frank, You will need to open the unit and check for an open fuse, cavity thermal cutout, or other issue. You can follow the wiring diagram/tech sheet to pinpoint the issue. This will be located in the control panel section of the unit.

I talked to your tech and he recommended you. My Whirlpool microwave was mfd in Korea - January of 2000. The unit suddenly shut down. All electric outlets and service panel switches were checked - none tripped off. The tech said I might need to replace the fuse -8183507 - which proved to be compatible when checked. Question: Can I access the fuse without taking the entire unit out? Can you offer tips on how I might approach the repair? If this sounds like the fuse is the issue, I should order the fuse. Please help!

This is an over the range microwave. I have power at the wall plug. The microwave is nonresponsive. Probably is the inline fuse or some other fuse. How do I access the fuse? Do I have to take the microwave off its mounts or is there an access panel fron the front or inside. I remember when I installed the microwave that it is heavy and that is why I'm wondering if there is an easy access port as this fuse would be the first line of protection for the appliance. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello Larry, If you feel across the top of the unit, you can feel two screws that, when removed, allow the removal of the grill assembly. Once this is removed you can access the single screw at the top of the control panel. Now the control panel will side up and off. This will allow you to access the fuses. Be aware that even when the unit is unplugged, the capacitor can still hold enough of a charge to kill you. Because of this, I recommend to ground each terminal you plan to touch with a screwdriver blade to ground.

Hi Tom. You need to remove the microwave altogether onto a protected table top. remove the units cover. Thew in line fuse is inserted in the fuse holder above the control panel / door switch area. Use a small blade screwdriver to pop out the old fuse. part # WP8183507. Thank You.
