For Whirlpool Defrost Heater Assembly (Part Number: OEM18030324)

Ron for Model Number EV200NXEWO

The defrost heater which sets in a shield at the bottome of the evaporator coils is not only burnt out, but the glass that encapsulates it is broken as well. I have a new heater but am trying to figure out how to remove the shield and defective heater without damaging anything. The shield has two nylon ties at either end of the element that appears to be holding it in place, but I can't see where the shield is secured to the bottom of the evaporator?

1 Answer

Ron, Look for some aluminum tabs that hold the shield and heater in position " Aluminum tabs located on the left side, middle and right side of the evaporator secure the heater to the evaporator. Bend these tabs to release the heater. 3. Remove the defrost heater from the evaporator, Note: When installing the heater, make sure the aluminum tabs are holding the heater tight against the evaporator to promote good heat transfer." Thanks

Brian for Model Number JCD2389GES

Every other day, water runs out of the bottom of my freezer door on to the floor (8-16 oz). I took the panels off the back of the freezer and saw that the evaporator housing (part #AP4071059) was iced up and blocking water from draining into the hole. The water overflowed the tray and came out of the slots on the coil cover (part #AP4068405). I am assuming that the defrost heater assembly (part #AP4069923) is bad and I need to order a new one to fix the problem. But I wanted to get your input before I order an unnecessary part, if there is another cause to this problem.

Jake for Model Number Jcd2389dew

Just replaced defrost control board AP4070403. Pror to this a copper line in rear of unit below freezer compartment was frosted. Since replacement of dcb frost is gone. However, I have now noticed that the rear wall of the freezer compartment is heavily frosted, which I did not check before. If I remove the frost will the new dcb be enough to solve the problem or do I need another part? Also, since dcb replacement, fresh food side not cooling as expected. Been running 1 hour.

Hello Jake. You will need to test the heater and thermostat WP61006199 and see if they read closed for continuity when cold. If they are good, just melt the ice and it should work properly. Hope this helps.

Hello Mark. Yes, you can bend the strips outward to help remove the heaters WP61001846. Only bend them enough to remove the heaters and be sure and bend them back after the new heaters are installed. Hope this helps.

Hi Jack. You will clip the defrost thermostat 1-1/2" away from the back wall on the larger suction tubing. Make sure the clip is fully attached so the thermostat senses correctly. You should be able to see where the original one was for reference. Thank you.
