Joe, If you're sure the correct water filter EDR1RXD1 / EDR1RXD1/ 9081 Filter was installed properly and the door was properly closed and snapped into place, then yes you will need to replace the W10862456 / W10862456 Housing. The internal bypass mechanism isn't being activated by the insertion of the filter, to allow the water to flow into and through the filter medium, but will operate with the filter removed. Thanks,

Venkat, For this you would need to remove the kickplate, once the kickplate is removed there will be 2 screws that would hold in the housing. You will need to pull the unit out and remove the back cover and disconnect the water lines from the valve and then pull the housing out from the front.

Dwight for Model Number Whirlpool Refridgerator model 4396710

I am using an "every drop" replacement filter and it doesn't feel like it snaps in. The eject button does need to be depressed to take back out but it doesn't have the snap the old filter had. I noticed several other questions with my issue were addressed as possible bad filter housing. It appears to me that the filter is working even though it doesn't feel as tight as the original filter and I haven't seen any water leaking yet. Is it possible the replacement filter just won't have the same fit as the original filters? Seem strange that so many folks report the same experience and unlikely everyone having a bad filter housing. What do you think?

Hello Dwight, The filter should not come back out without ejecting. The filter housing failure is a very common issue. I would not trust the filter in that housing. I would first try a new filter to make sure the manufacturer did not have a bad lot and if that doesn't correct the issue, replace the filter housing. I'm sorry but we will need to ask you to post a new question including the model number from your units' I.D. tag so we can recommend parts that can be guaranteed to work properly on your unit. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hello Linda. We do not have part specific instructions due to this being a Kenmore design Whirlpool, but this video should help you replace your unit. Some steps may be a little different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvMsxF20IT4
