For Whirlpool Microwave Light Socket (Part Number: OEM13093404)

Sidney for Model Number IMH16XWQ0I

I had to have someone come over and replace my bulb and socket when the bulb burnt and the base broke off while I tried to change it. That was less than a year after purchasing my microwave. It burnt again not long after, and I didn't bother changing it, because I think it's silly having it so far back. After all these years, I thought I'd try to change it, and the bulb is stuck in the socket. How can I get it out? What would be causing the bulbs to burn out so quickly?

Sidney, if the light is being left on for extended periods of time (such as being used as a night light) or if the bulb is not fully seated in place, it can shorten the life span of the bulb quite a bit.

Darryl, The only way to test the socket is to make sure that there is 120 Vac getting to it. If there is 120 Vac getting to it and a known good bulb is not coming on then the socket would be faulty.

Keith for Model Number WMH53521HZ3

Under cabinet bulb was intermittently not working. Bulb looked fine, but tapping around the fixture would sometimes make it come on making me suspect a loose wire. Wires seemed fine so I stupidly tried hooking up a multimeter to check the voltage in the socket but accidentally shorted it and blew a fuse. I now have burn marks in light socket which I will replace for sure. Question is that when I now disconnect the wires to the socket and put my multimeter between them it shows 120V regardless of the light switch position (off, low or high). Seems odd and makes me presume with a new socket and bulb the light will just stay on. Do I need more than just a new socket (eg, harness, switch or control board?) Many thanks for the advice

Keith, Thanks for the question!!! You have damaged the control board W11182110, this may have happened during the shorting or just by removing the light bulb when the unit is plugged in. On these microwaves, it is required to unplug the unit to change the bulb to prevent the board from being damaged.
