Mandy, The grill rocks are for under the grill and should help with the level of the grill coil. Also, there should be a grease jar under the unit that will need to be cleaned.

Garry, Yes there needs to be two(2) grill grates above the grill element. Apparently, you don't have the grates, you'll need the WP5701M122-60/ WP5701M122-60 Grate Kit, but they are no longer available from the manufacturer. You may want to contact local parts dealers, one of them might still have it in stock. Enter your part number in a search engine, a smaller company might have it. Try eBay, Amazon, or similar sites. Search by using the manufacturer's part number. Try a used appliance store, sometimes they have the same model or usable part for your machine. Good Luck and Thanks,

Jack, the rock plate is a heavy, flat surface designed to accept the heat and produce a "smoke" effect when used on the downdraft cooktop, but as a bacon press, you'd need to develop a handle of some sort or use the support rods as handles? Good Luck,
