Mandy January 25, 2024 for Model Number Jenn Air C201-C We just moved into a home with a Jenn Air (down draft?) Cooktop, and I am very unfamiliar with anything like it. What are the lava rocks used for? I have a working electric grill coil but it does not sit flat. Is that normal? Is there some kind of grease deflector If I use the grill plates or is the grease supposed to just drop onto the coil element? Thank you!
1 Answer Mandy, The grill rocks are for under the grill and should help with the level of the grill coil. Also, there should be a grease jar under the unit that will need to be cleaned. Read More...
Chuck April 24, 2023 for Model Number c301 Can you please tell me the best way to clean the cast iron lava rock pieces and get it back to being shiny? They have some light rust from being stored in my garage and not being used for a while.

Garry G. February 24, 2021 Hello-I am trying to assemble the heating element and rock plates from a 2008 Jennair stove. I have learned how to set up the heating element and plates, but what do I grill on? Is there a third part that is the actual grilling surface? Thanks
1 Answer Garry, Yes there needs to be two(2) grill grates above the grill element. Apparently, you don't have the grates, you'll need the WP5701M122-60/ WP5701M122-60 Grate Kit, but they are no longer available from the manufacturer. You may want to contact local parts dealers, one of them might still have it in stock. Enter your part number in a search engine, a smaller company might have it. Try eBay, Amazon, or similar sites. Search by using the manufacturer's part number. Try a used appliance store, sometimes they have the same model or usable part for your machine. Good Luck and Thanks, Read More...
1 Answer Jack, the rock plate is a heavy, flat surface designed to accept the heat and produce a "smoke" effect when used on the downdraft cooktop, but as a bacon press, you'd need to develop a handle of some sort or use the support rods as handles? Good Luck, Read More...
Jack January 20, 2021 I was wondering if these were made of cast iron and if the surface was coated with something. I would like to use one as a bacon press if that is safe. Thank you.
1 Answer Jack, it would be likely that the discontinued rock plate 74011338 was made from a cast metal and coated with a heat resistant coating. Read More...
Anita M December 29, 2020 for Model Number JED8230ADS We bought a house last year with a Jenn-air range in it. One half is a radiant cooktop and the other half is a grill. A set of rock plates were also left in the house but in all the paperwork I have about the range and grill cartridge it doesn’t mention using the rock plates. Is it ok to use the rock plates with my model? If it is, should I remove the rock plates before using the griddle accessory?
1 Answer Anita, Yes, you can use the rock plates for your model and you would want to remove them before using the griddle. Read More...
Jessica October 28, 2020 If the rock plates go beneath the heating element will the grease from grilling harm the heating element?
1 Answer Jessica, No, if used correctly there will be very little to no adverse effect on the grill bay element. Just make sure the support wires on the rock plate are supporting the grill element and all should be OK. Thanks, Read More...
