The Door Latch Assembly is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is responsible for securely latching and locking the dishwasher door during operation, preventing leaks and ensuring a proper seal.

Symptoms of needing to replace the door latch assembly include:

  • Difficulty in properly closing or latching the dishwasher door
  • Leaks or water seeping out from around the door area
  • Visible signs of wear, damage, or cracks on the latch mechanism
  • The door not staying securely closed during operation

Causes of a faulty dishwasher door latch assembly can include normal wear and tear over time, physical damage due to impact or mishandling, or issues with the latch mechanism itself.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore dishwasher models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Door Latch Handle (Blk) (Part Number: OEM18046359)

1 Answer

Scott, You will want to gain access to the tech sheet behind the toe panel of the unit and do a continuity test on the membrane switch for the dishwasher. If the control panel test ok for continuity then the issue will be a faulty control board.

Barry for Model Number MDB6701AWQ3

I went to your site and attempted to order a door latch assembly with handle for my dishwasher. When I entered the model number it directed me to the diagram where I could select the part I needed for my repair. I selected the part I needed (part number AP6018386). The caption indicated that this was for the body and switches only. It also indicated that “If the complete handle assembly is not listed for your model you can order WPW10130695 for black, WPW10130695 for white, or WPW10130695 for bisque”. I clicked on the part number for bisque (although the part number was the same for black, white and bisque) and was brought to the screen for the door latch assembly with a black handle. When I entered my model number in your Appliance Compatibility Tool, MDB6701AWQ3, I get a response “Sorry This part is not compatible. See parts for model DB6701AWQ3" I don’t mind a black handle if the bisque handle is no longer available, but I don’t want to proceed with the order if the latch assembly won’t work, as indicated in your Appliance Compatibility Tool.

Hello Barry, We must once again apologize for our compatibility tool. When there is a part cross by the manufacturer, our compatibility tool does not recognize it and automatically says the part is not compatible. WPW10130695 is the part recommended by the manufacturer for the model number provided. This part will work and please accept our apologies for the confusion caused by our "tool".

Pat, The switches should be wired with both white on one switch and both black on the other switch. It is not likely the door switch would cause the mechanical noise. You will want to check to make sure that there is nothing in the pump assembly that would cause this issue.

Hello Nik, unfortunately the manufacturer has discontinued the white handle for this type of unit and is only offering the black handle part number WPW10130695 as a replacement.

Norman, You will want to check to see if there is power getting to the water valve. If there is but the unit will not fill then the valve will be the issue. This sounds like it would some kind of wiring failure and will need to check the wiring in the unit.
