Roger July 29, 2015 for Model Number ACQ249XR2 Hi, I have a Whirlpool, with motor 1188487.The fan turns fairly easy, without power. When turned on, and the relay kicks in, the fan motor acts like it's "locked", and won't spin. However it makes a REALLY loud buzzing sound. It does this for all three speeds. There are only 5 wires, a white common, a brown capacitor start, and one each that goes to low, high, and turbo on the control board. It has a 40/12.5 MFD dual cap, that meters out 35.9 for the compressor, and 12.4 for the fan motor. When I disconnect the motor, and read the voltages at the board, I get correct 240 volts, at each of the three speeds. I'm fairly stumped, because at $165 for the motor, and $80 for the capacitor, I would not want to make a mistake, and end up buying both. Anything I'm missing? Thanks, R
1 Answer Hello Roger. If the board is supplying the voltage, then it is good. Next we need to look for voltage to the motor. If no voltage is there, but we have power to the capacitor, you will need to replace the capacitor. Also, with a capacitor, you should see a spike and return to 0 on your meter when testing. If there is power to the motor, then the motor is bad. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Donald C August 07, 2014 for Model Number ACQ244XP0 When turned on motor just buzzes. Motor doesn't turn. Think it is the motor but not sure. If correct any place I can go to find out how to disassemble to replace motor ??
1 Answer Donald, The motor just buzzing when it is turned on could be a bad capacitor which you would want to check. Unfortunately there is no service guide available to assist with disassembly of the unit. Read More...
Mike June 12, 2013 for Model Number ca25wc5 My unit is a crosley model ca25wc5 is fan motor listed for whirlpool model ca25wc50 the same motor & how difficult is the installation? Are detailed instructions sent with the motor (wire colors etc) or am I on my own to figure them out?
1 Answer Mike, Yes the whirlpool fan motor WP1188487 is the same as the one for your unit. The wiring should be the same colors. If you clip the wires in the middle and leave attached to the controls then you can figure out how the wiring goes. Read More...
1 Answer Hello Josh. Disconnect the power. You will need to remove the unit from the casing and access the motor. Once you have accessed the motor, you will need to release the clips securing the motor and remove the blades on both ends of the motor from the motor shaft. Once removed, unplug the wires and install the new motor WP1188487 in reverse order. Read More...
Josh May 16, 2012 for Model Number acm254xho My unit runs for 30 minutes then stops blowing. It starts making a buzzing/humming noise like it has power but something is in a bind. If I turn it off for a minute or two it will start back up and run fine. I was told it would be the fan motor causing this but do not wish to spend this much on a fan motor if there could be another potential issue. The unit is a 99 model but appears to be in great working order other than this so I am debating this repair or buying brand new. If this is indeed the issue I would atleast like to repair this and see how much life is left in the unit. Thanks alot.
1 Answer Hello Josh. Yes, if you can let the motor WP1188487 cool off for a few minutes, and then it starts and runs properly, it sounds like the fan motor will need to be replaced. Read More...
