This condenser fan motor spins the fan that moves air across the condenser coils and around the compressor. Replacing a weak or seized motor restores proper heat removal so the cooling system can maintain stable temperatures and run efficiently.

  • Drives the condenser fan to move airflow through the condenser section
  • Helps dissipate heat from the refrigeration system and cool the compressor
  • Failure may present as the condenser fan not running
  • May also cause warm temperatures, longer run times, or loud scraping/whirring noises near the rear or bottom of the unit
  • Can contribute to the compressor running hot
What's included: 1 condenser fan motor Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; use gloves to protect from sharp edges

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Condenser Fan Motor (Part Number: OEM12991539)

1 Answer

Doug, You will want to check to make sure that the damper door at the top back of the refrigerator compartment to make sure that it is open. If it is then check to make sure that the evaporator fan motor is running in the freezer compartment. If they check ok then check the evaporator coils to see if there is impacted ice on the coils. If the damper door is closed then will be a issue of the damper being defective, if the fan is not running then would most likely be the fan is faulty and then if the coils are impacted with ice then this would be a defrost issue in which you will need to test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat for continuity. If there is continuity then the issue will be a faulty control board.

Hello Harold. Make sure nothing is hitting the fan. If not, then it sounds like the motor is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Brian M for Model Number KSSC42QMS00

Have a kitcheaid side by side model kssc42qms00. It was operational in a home we recently purchased but sitting idle. About 3 weeks ago it was running 'normally' but we powered it down as we moved in. About a week ago the interior was cleaned in preparation for use. Now upon power up (switch behind top panel) all lights come on, all control panels (there are 3 - 4 of them total) power up and stay on except the main one in the fridge compartment (top of interior with temp readouts, adjustments, resets, etc.). It comes on for apporx 2 seconds, beeps twice then goes out. The fan nor compressor come on. This behavior occurs each time and is very repeatable. Can't check for demo mode nor reset as the control panel won't stay one. Any ideas?

Brian, You will want to pull the compartment for the control board in the refrigerator section and check the ribbon harness to make sure that there is no corrosion on the connection. This could cause the issue that is happening. If this checks ok then the most likely issue will be the control board W10839424.

Hello Paul. Yes, remove the upper access panel and turn off the unit. Then remove the screws securing the old fan motor and install the new fan motor. These are not hard to replace in the unit.

Donna for Model Number 106.53632300

Condenser fan motor is not working at times. Ordered new part. Received W10181323 with a bracket. There are no holes to secure the bracket to. Ordered second part, W10124096. Does not come with a bracket, but the holes on the fan motor do not line up with the holes on the existing bracket. Also, there are raised plastic parts on the back of the second fan motor which would not allow it to be flush up against the existing bracket like the original motor.

Hi Donna. I have researched your replacement condenserr fan motor W10181323, is still the same cross reference part for your refrigerator model. As long as you can slide the mount tabs (of the bracket assy.)securely on the existing frame. You might consider having to use the new fan motor on the original bracket assembly. I hope this helps .Thank- you.

Hello Linda! The holes on the new bottom bracket should line up to the holes on the bottom of the air baffle. This will allow the new condensor fan motor to mount and function. Thanks!
