Jamie November 22, 2022 for Model Number MDB4949SDH3 Dishes are not clean. I have water coming out of the wash arms but the lower wash arm does not spin. Do I have a pump/motor problem?
1 Answer Jamie, if the upper wash arms are rotating and spraying properly, the lower spray arm W10803178 would need to be inspected for cracks or clogged jets. If none of the spray arms have water coming through properly, it is very likely that the pump motor W10815709 has failed. Read More...
John June 04, 2022 for Model Number MDB4949SDE3 The dishwasher makes a grinding noise when pumping water into the unit. I've learned this is likely due to the pump motor or impeller. Can the impeller be replaced individually, or does the pump & impeller come together?
1 Answer Hello John, You can order the motor and pump assembly W10815709 and grommet WPW10538166 or you can order the complete pump and motor assembly WPW10591570. Ordering the impeller W10685075 is not recommended since there is a high possibility of water leaks if not installed properly. Read More...
Brent May 02, 2022 for Model Number MDB4949SHZ0 I have a Maytag dishwasher that fills and drains just fine, but I have no movement inside from the arms at all. I've tested all parts and have continuity and resistance seems normal but I feel that the circulation motor is the cause since nothing is happening. I need to order W10815709 but it's almost $200 and back ordered everywhere. I want to be sure that the part will fix the issue before I shell out $200 to try to fix it. Can anyone help me to know if this is the issue? Thank you
1 Answer Hello Brent, since you have a multimeter the test for the motor would be to check if you have 120v at the motor's 2 light blue wires which the board sends to the motor just after finishing the fill cycle. Read More...
Erik November 18, 2021 for Model Number MDB8989SHZ Maytag MDB8989SHZ circulation motor was replaced a year ago. Recently started making vibration noise during wash cycle. Will replacing the motor again resolve noise?
1 Answer Erik, Based on the description the circulation pump/motor would be what is running during the wash cycle therefore the likely issue. Read More...
Mike August 25, 2021 for Model Number MDB8979SFZ2 Dishwasher fills and drains fine but upper wash arm seems to be the only one that spins. Lower and middle wash arms do not. All lower components accessible from inside tub have been disassembled, cleaned and reinstalled. Is AP5984477 pump responsible for drain AND circulation of water through wash arms? If so, is pump replacement the likely solution or since the unit drains properly, do I have a valve/switch that is not operating correctly?
1 Answer Mike, Based on the information provided the pump and motor assembly would likely take care of the issue. WPW10591570 Read More...
Matthew April 25, 2021 for Model Number MDB4949SDZO My unit will fill and drain but it doesn't do anything in between. So that mean I need to replace the motor or could it be something else?
1 Answer Mathew, Based on the information provide the first thing would be to check to see if the motor has power to it when it should be running. If there is power to the motor and it does not run then yes you would need to replace it. if there is not power getting to the motor then you would trace it back to a possible control issue. John M. December 08, 2020 for Model Number MDB8969SDH3 Does the pump/motor assembly have the chopper as part of the assembly??
1 Answer Hello John, The chopper blade W11246682 is built into the pump assembly but is replaceable as an individual part. It is a part of the pump motor assembly W10815709 if you do not want to tear it completely apart. Read More...

Brian Wade September 29, 2020 for Model Number MDB8959SFH4 I hear a high-pitched whine while the dishes are washing. It sounds like a bearing gone or going bad. I also hear the water splashing around in the tub as normal and the dishes are clean as normal. There is no whine when the tub is draining, only when the water is circulating and the dishes are washing. This started a couple of days ago. I put my ear down on the floor next to the kick plate and it sounds like the noise is coming from under the unit. Wondering whether I need to replace entire pump assembly W10815709 or perhaps there is something more targeted or specific I should replace. I bought the dishwasher only a little more than a year ago, so I am not very happy right now. Thanks.
1 Answer Brian W, Based on the information provided I would check to see that nothing has gotten into the sump area that is causing the noise. If there is nothing hung in the sump and impellers then the circulation motor (motor/Pump) would be the issue. Read More...
Nate August 25, 2020 for Model Number MDB8959SFZ3 my dishwasher is not getting very good pressure and it running very noisy. Would replacing the Motor-Pump (AP5984477) be sufficient or should I replace with the full Pump & Motor Assembly (AP6023274)
1 Answer Hello Nate, the difference is cost and that with the assembly the motor/pump comes attached to the sump assembly. Either part should fix the problem. Read More...
