The Rotor Position Sensor is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is responsible for monitoring the position and speed of the rotor, ensuring the motor operates correctly to perform various washing cycles. The sensor sends precise data to the washing machine's control board, which adjusts the motor's function accordingly.

Causes of a bad rotor position sensor can include electrical failures, wear and tear over time, or physical damage from impact or moisture exposure. When this sensor fails, it disrupts the communication between the motor and control board, leading to operational issues.

Symptoms of a bad rotor position sensor include:

  • The washing machine not spinning or agitating
  • Error codes indicating motor issues
  • The machine stopping mid-cycle
  • Unusual noises coming from the motor area

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Rotor Position Sensor (Part Number: OEM18049140)

1 Answer

Patty, This issue will either be that the agitator is bad and stripped or the thrust bearing is faulty.

Kevin, If the unit does not lock and no water comes in then the issue will either be in the console or the control board. If you get into the control panel there should be a tech sheet. On page number 5 of the tech sheet there is a console and indicator test. You can test this and if the console passes the test then the control board would most likely be the issue with the unit.

Donna, Recheck and make sure the new sensor is installed properly. Check the wiring connections and wires WPW10137697 up to the machine control board WPW10189966 If all looks OK, disconnect the harness from the P5 connector on the board and check from pin 1 to pin 2 for 31 ohms resistance (+/- 5 ohms). check pin 1 to pin 3 for the same resistance. Then remove the P10 connector pin 3 to pin 6, pin 4 to pin 6,pin 5 to pin 6 should all read 1.5K ohms resistance. Then check pin 1 to pin 7 for 600 to 21.2K ohms. If the resistance readings are in range, replace the machine control board.

Michel for Model Number WTW8200YW0

It just recently started overfilling the dispensers -soap, fabric softener and bleach - they overfill and dump it over the side which ends up dripping down the outside of the tub. It seems to start filling the dispenser normally and then it's like the pressure raises and it's just too much for the dispensers capacity. It started doing it just to the fabric softener and now it's all three.I made a manual diagnostic test on the log valve and all 6 solenoids operate properly on command and the dispensers still overfill if I dont command the valve to shut. Otherwise, it operates normally, is it possible the log valve feeds more water then normal or something is wrong with the dispensers.

1 Answer

Michel, You will want to check the dispenser to ensure that there is no clogging in the dispenser. This would be the most likely cause for the issue to occur. If there are no clogs then it is possible that the valve is causing the issue but would suspect the dispenser.
