The Whirlpool Motor Pulley is an OEM part for Whirlpool clothes dryers. It is the component located on the dryer drum motor that transmits power to spin the dryer cylinder and tumble clothes during operation. It allows the belt to grip effectively for transmission of torque from the motor.

Symptoms of a bad Motor Pulley include:

  • The dryer drum failing to spin and tumble clothes during cycles
  • Abnormal squealing, grinding or belt slipping noises from inside the dryer
  • Minimal air flow and prolonged drying times

Causes of failure can include cracks or deterioration of the pulley edge from prolonged use, the belt wearing grooves into the pulley, or loose mounting bolts allowing wobbling.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Motor Pulley (Part Number: OEM17966223)

Daniel for Model Number WGD9200SQ0

Hello, I recenlty bought W10314173 repair kit and installed all of the parts from the kit. It worked great for one week. Yesterday my wife was drying and smelled something burning and the drum stopped rotating and the door popped open. I took the dryer apart again and noticed the belt had broken and shreded to pieces around the motor pulley. The motor turns without any effort so it is not seized. The motor pulley has a plastic piece(thick plastic washer) between the pulley and the motor. that washer is deformed almost looks like it melted. Am i able to purchase that platic washer on its own or does it come with the motor pully. I saw the motor assembly of a new motor on your site and it has the plastic washer. I have the old belt will the motor run without the plastic washer? Will it work without any problems or do i need to replace the plastic washer?

Hello Daniel. It sounds like something caused the drum to bind in the unit. Check the rollers and felt seals on the unit. You will need to replace the motor 279787 for the plastic part your needing.

Cliff, The plastic "blue piece" in the pulley kit is a shaft shield/guard, it helps to deflect debris, lint, etc. from accumulating on the motor shaft. It isn't imperative to install it, but if you're replacing the pulley, you may as well. It isn't part of the idler pulley or any other pulley for that matter.

Hello Guy, I'm sorry but our guys haven't gotten to this part yet. They are making videos everyday so they should work their way around to it soon. Thank you for your patience and have a great day!

Hello Guy. No, there is not a set screw. The motor should be fine as long as the shaft is not stripped out.

Elliot for Model Number WED9200SQ0

Hello, Everything (programming) on the dryer seems to be set to start except it will not start. Later after troubleshooting I removed the back panel to find the belt off the track and ripped almost apart on one spot. I cleaned the lint out from the back of the dryer base and found a small hex head like piece of metal about the size of a nickel just down in the lint. It looks like it came off of the back of the motor where the pulley would attach. After looking online here, it seems to be a part of the motor pulley. It is broken off but it's just the head part of it. I think I can order just that part but not sure on how to replace it. Thanks

Hello Elliot, The motor pulley W10837625 should thread onto the motor shaft. There will be a flat spot on the motor shaft where a set of vise grips can be clamped on and the motor pulley is normally left handed threads. This will depend on this models' design and the direction of the motors' rotation.
