Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Pump And Motor Assembly (Drain) (Part Number: OEM15918555)

Ellen, You will want to open the sump assembly from the top and check to make sure that there is nothing down inside the pump that would cause this issue. Could be a piece of glass or something like that which could cause the issue. If this checks ok then the issue would be the wash motor that is faulty.

i had to replace the motor/pump on this unit with part #W10428168. It filled with water but then will only run for about 5 secs and then click off. The washing light is still lite. It then goes about 3min10sec and then tries to run again. It only runs the same 5 secs and clicks. It will continue this cycle. The when I hit cancel/drain the motor hums like it wants to start but then clicks off never starting/running to pump out water. any suggestions? seams like something is telling the motor to stop. If bad motor i would not think that it would try to start again. also the new replacement does not have a hole to screw what seams like some type of counterbalance

Greg, You will want to check the wiring coming into your dishwasher to make sure that there is only 120 vac coming into your dishwasher. Also check the wiring from the control board to the motor for broken or shorted wires. It sounds like you are loosing the neutral circuit and getting high amperage draw due to this which would cause the unit to have this issue.

Our 11 year old dishwasher will not drain, and was making a high pitched squeal before it failed. Now when you select cancel/drain, it makes a humming and clicking noise and fails to drain. If we purchase the pump/motor assembly does it include the drain pump/motor, or is the drain assembly sold as a separate component? What other parts (seals, etc.) do we need to purchase if we purchase the pump/motor assembly to complete the repair job?

Hello John, The pump and motor assembly (AP5306182) is both the circulation pump and the drain pump. Replacing it will cure the issue. It comes with the gasket that goes around it and seals it to the tub. It should be lubricated around the outer edge with liquid soap to prevent damage during its' installation.

I'm not getting any water spray from either the lower or upper arms. I've taken it apart and don't see any blockage that would prevent the water from flowing. Also, I hear the pump running but when I open the door, the water is "frothy" in the bottom but nothing is being sprayed. When taking it apart, the upper half of the pump was just sitting kinda loose. My assumption is the pump halves have separated and the pump pressure is just recirculating in the tub. But for the life of me, I can't see what holds the two pump halves together, and I don't see any broken parts. Was it perhaps glued together and the glue has failed?

Hello dish_pan_hands. If the water level is correct, and the motor is not clogged and stuck, you will need to order and replace the pump and motor assembly W10428168 on the unit.
