The Seal is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This part provides a tight seal around the washer shaft, preventing water from leaking out of the tub during the wash cycle.

Causes of a bad shaft seal can include wear and tear over time, exposure to harsh detergents or cleaning agents, or damage from foreign objects that may have gotten into the washer. 

Symptoms of a bad shaft seal include:

  • Water leaking from the bottom of the washing machine
  • Excessive noise during operation
  • Visible damage or wear on the seal
  • Wet spots or puddles under the washer

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Bimll, With the unit not draining and not spinning, the first thing that you will want to check the drain pump to make sure that the pump is not clogged or seized. The unit will not spin if the unit is not draining.

Dan, You will want to check to make sure that there is not a problem with the pressure switch allowing too much water to come into the unit and also check the agitator to ensure that the seal is good and that there are no parts missing from it.

Dale, You will want to make sure that you pull the agitator and check for fabric softner build up that can cause the oily spotting on clothes. If this checks ok then you will want to make sure that the shaft seal is not leaking.

Jim, The rubber seal that you are referring too was originally a sound damper for the clutch assembly to reduce the noise. For the unit leaking you would need to replace the center post seal W10814296.
