The Oven Sensor Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens, designed to accurately measure the oven's internal temperature and communicate it to the control board. This ensures that the oven maintains the desired temperature setting during baking or roasting, providing consistent cooking results.

Causes of a bad Oven Sensor Assembly can include exposure to high temperatures for prolonged periods, affecting the sensor's accuracy, electrical malfunctions like short circuits or wiring issues impacting its performance, and physical damage from cleaning or moving the oven compromising the sensor's integrity.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Sensor Assembly include:

  • The oven does not heat to the set temperature
  • Over or undercooking of food
  • Error codes displayed on the oven's control panel

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Magnumrtawd. The error codes don't always appear from a bad sensor WPW10181986. If the unit gets too hot, then you will receive the error code, or if the unit does not read the sensor, you can get the codes. You will need to replace the oven sensor, based on the information you provided. Hope this helps.

Hello Laura! Yes, the F3 E2 failure code indicates a failed oven temperature sensor. You will need to replace part number WPW10181986. Here are some instructions I've located on how to replace an oven sensor, hope they help! Remove screws from inside the oven ( some newer models like Frigidaire/Kenmore have the 2 screws on the outside at the back ) and pull towards you the inoperative sensor. If the connection on the sensor or the wire harness is not applicable to your model, use two ceramic high temp wire connectors to splice the wires together. Strip insulation on each wire approximately 1/2" from the end. On some models, the sensor may be serviced from the front, on others the hole in the oven liner is not large enough for the wire nut/connector to pass through and must be serviced from the rear. Important: Make sure the wire nuts/connectors are completely through the insulation and not touching the back of the oven cavity. Once the wire nuts/connectors are properly positioned, reinstall the sensor screws removed earlier.

Hi John. The oven sensor is part # WPW10181986. Is your unit giving a F-3 code? This is a sensor code. You need to use the Use-and-Care Manual. Find the "Adjusting oven temperature" area. You can adjust the temperature either -35 degrees or +35 degrees from a ( 0 ) center area. The clock manufacture may have let this one get out not set correctly or someone reset it. Usually in the field it is common to put the temperature up 15 - 20 degrees to mke up for proper oven center cavity temperature's. Thank you.

Hello Jim! The F2 failure indicates that the oven termperature is too high. Here is what you will need to do; 1. Look for welded relay contacts on bake or broil relays. If this happens, replace oven control (also called clock or ERC). 2. For SELF CLEAN models: check door lock operation. 3. Look for a high resistance connection or any other cause of high resistance in the oven temperature sensor circuit. Check sensor, sensor harness and sensor harness connection at sensor and oven control. Replace sensor if found defective. Remember: Oven control (ERC) measures resistance of sensor circuit, not actual oven temperature. The electronic control on your unit is part number WPW10312660 and the oven sensor is part number WPW10181986. Hope this information helps you!

Hello Rigoberto. The e3-f1 code means the microcomputer is bad. Try unplugging the rang for about 1 minute, then plug it back up. If the code continues, replace the microcomputer WP8523666. You will need to pull the unit out and remove the back control panel cover to replace the microcomputer. They are not hard to change. Hope this helps.

Hi George. The oven sensor will give a failure code usually when it fails. It can be tested and normally ohms out to 1,100 ohms, plus or minus 10%. While testing, make sure you wiggle the wires for opens or shorts. Most likely your bake element is open. Disconnect power. access the back panel and remove. Remove Bake element wires and ohm out, also testing each leg to the element itself and ground for any shorts. This bake element part # is WPW10308477. Usually they should ohm out between 35-to-78 Ohms. Hope this helps.
