The Sleeve is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool top-loading washing machines. As an internal part, this sleeve surrounds a shaft connecting the drive motor to the agitator. It is made of tough plastic designed to withstand years of rotational torque without warping or cracking.

Causes of a damaged washer sleeve can include regular wear from constant agitator motion. Mineral buildup accumulating inside over many wash cycles may cause interior components to deteriorate faster. Physical obstructions jamming the drive train could potentially bend or split the sleeve.

Symptoms of a failed sleeve involve:

  • The agitator fails to rotate properly during cycles
  • Grinding or squeaking noises coming from inside the washing machine
  • Premature failure of connected parts like the drive belt or drive hub

This OEM replacement helps maintain the smooth operation of your washer's drive components. Compatible with some Kenmore and other Whirlpool-made top load models as well.

For Whirlpool Sleeve (Part Number: OEM18017556)

Craig for Model Number A105

Got a Maytag washer, A105, leaking water onto floor. Took top off and found the 'sleeve' (a clear plastic part, open at the top, connecting two black hoses that fill the tub) leaking. Water is bubbling out of the open box at the top (the open part looks like an air gap to me). Why would it do this? Nothing looks broken. The connections are good, the hoses are intact as far as I can tell and water still fills the tub, but bubbles out of the top of the sleeve. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

Craig, You're pretty much on target, it is an air gap, aerator, and anti siphon valve. it is a three piece assembly, WP215447 sleeve, WP216201 valve,WP213015 nozzle. The leakage is usually due to deposits from the water, debris from the detergents, etc or low water pressure which won't allow the valve to expand against the inside of the sleeve and seal. Just remember, the nozzle fits inside the valve, and you have to roll the edge of the valve over the end of the nozzle to seal properly. The parts are in stock and available at this time. Thanks,

Hello Max, It is not recommended to get rid of sleeve. You would want to replace nozzle, injector and clean up or replace sleeve.
