Symptoms of a bad door latch strike include:

  • Dishwasher door not latching securely

  • Difficulty in closing or opening the dishwasher door
  • The dishwasher not starting because the door isn’t properly closed

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Door Latch Strike (Part Number: OEM18040731)

1 Answer

JR, Insert an Allen wrench between the countertop and the top of the console in the vicinity of the door latch. Turn the Allen wrench down and press down on the latch strike retainer brackets to release them from the support collar. The latch strike retainer brackets are snapped into the metal ridge on which the cabinet seal is installed. Open the door. The unsnapped latch strike will remain attached to the door catch and will be pulled out of the mounting slots in the support collar. Remove the latch strike from the door latch assembly. Reinsert the latch strike into the slots in the support collar and snap it into place.
