The Suspension Rod Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This kit includes four suspension rods that support the washer tub and help absorb vibrations during the spin cycle. These rods ensure the tub remains balanced, providing smooth and quiet operation.

You should replace the suspension rods if they become worn or damaged. Over time, heavy loads, unbalanced loads, or general wear and tear can cause the rods to lose their ability to stabilize the tub effectively. This can lead to excessive vibrations and noise during the wash cycle.

Symptoms of a bad suspension rod kit include:

  • Excessive shaking or vibrating during the wash cycle
  • Loud banging or knocking noises
  • Washer tub not staying centered
  • Washer moving or walking during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Suspension Rod Kit (Part Number: OEM18989388)

Hello Matthew, thank you for contacting APP, This is likely to be an issue with the Inner Tub/Basket W11172199 being out-of-round or the Gearcase W11454372. To test I would remove the inner basket and roll it across level, smooth flooring and see if the basket wobbles, if so the tub will need to be replaced, if not replace the gearcase.

My washer will shake violently and turned 180 degrees. only couple years old, I pressed down and checked the rebound on the tub and it does not have any. IT shakes so bad it knocked out the metal wall on washer and knocked hole in wall. Have checked the level of it with a level. Would this be the suspension rods even thoe there is no bounce? pulled one rod and the plastic bulb is hard to slide and seems very firm. IT is disappointing because my old washer with transmission lasted 18 years never touching it till it just quit.

Mason, This issue will most likely be the suspension rods that are faulty. Also, if the unit is sitting on tile or concrete then make sure that there are some rubber pads under the washer to help the feet grip the floor and keep this from occurring.
