  • Routes power through the correct contacts to deliver the selected temperature
  • Provides four distinct temperature options via a rotary control
  • Common symptoms include: temperature won't change, only one setting works, dead spots while turning, or a loose/stripped knob shaft
  • Helps correct mismatched temperature vs. selection
What's included:
  • 1 rotary temperature selector switch (4-position)
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing
  • Remove the console/cover and pull off the temperature knob to access the switch
  • Transfer wires one at a time from the old switch to the new to maintain correct positions
  • Align the D-shaft/locking tabs, secure the switch in the console, reinstall knob and panels, and test selection

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Temperature Selector Switch (4-Position, Rotary) (Part Number: OEM18040638)

John C for Model Number Maytag MEDC465HW0

My dryer is having heat issues. The element is tested and works fine. Dryer would not heat until I started rotating the front console temperature selection switch. It now runs fine on low heat but not on high. On high I get no heat at all. Could the issue be with one of the other rear sensors/fuses which is perhaps not working at high temp?... or do you think it's most likely the front console temp selection switch? Thanks in advance. John

John C, Based on the information provided I would check it with a multimeter to see where the power is lost in the heating circuit.

Ricky, The start switch has a coil in it and is most likely the cause for the issue that you having. You can check from Light blue to Pink/black on the start switch to see if the coil is burnt out. The part number for the switch is WPW10117655. If this is not the issue then you will need to trace the neutral back to see where you are losing it.
