The Thermistor Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators and freezers. This component plays a role in monitoring and controlling the temperature within your appliance. A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance changes with temperature changes, allowing the refrigerator's control system to accurately maintain the desired cooling levels based on the readings it provides.

Causes of a bad thermistor can include wear and tear from constant use, exposure to extreme temperatures that can damage the component, or electrical issues such as short circuits.

Symptoms of a bad Thermistor Kit include:

  • The refrigerator or freezer is too cold or not cold enough
  • The appliance cycles on and off more frequently or for longer periods than normal
  • Unexplained changes in temperature settings

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Shampale, The resistances are based on temperature: Temperature Resistance 77°F.................................................... 10,000 ohms 36°F ................................................... 29,500 ohms 0°F...................................................... 86,300 ohms The compartment thermistors will have the same resistance readings at room temperature but will be different at the specified temperatures(+/- 10-%). Thanks,

Pooldog, There is nothing wrong with using small wire nuts, just make sure that when you get them on put a little silicone inside them to keep moisture out. You would want to do that with the bell connectors that come with the kit too if you were to use them.

James for Model Number GI6SARXXF04

Is the "12002355 Thermistor" correct part for my Whirlpool Refrigerator Model GI6SARXXF04? Appreciate your reply. James for Model Number GI6SARXXF04 ANSWER James, the freezer thermistor would be a part of the fan motor assembly WPW10276647 while the refrigerator thermistor would be a part of the wire harness W11029433. Hi, I would like to follow up on the question above. First thanks for you explaination. Now, my refrigerator has issue of the refrigerator section NOT cooling. I have read many diagnostics and most point to the thermistor. So my questions now are: 1. Can I just replace the thermistor in these WPW10276647 and W11029433, by cut it off and solder back a new one? 2. If yes on question #1, what would be the part number of the themistor (I am assuming they are the same in both places). Thanks.

Hello James, since the manufacturer does not list the thermistor as a separate part we have no way of confirming if thermistor kit 12002355 matches your model however it was the original thermistor kit for Maytag refs.Yes you can cut/splice the kit into the original wire harnesses.

Jim, The sensor for the refrigerator is located in the ceiling of the refrigerator under the light assembly. It would be recommended to check the damper that is behind the icemaker to make sure that it is working. If this checks ok then the issue will be a faulty control board.

Rob for Model Number MFC2062DEM-01

I've had continuing problems with the main compartment temp being much colder than the digital readout, set at 41ºF, but actually getting colder the further down in the compartment you go, from 38ºF to 33ºF. Replaced the damper. No change. Replaced the Electronic control board. No change. Replaced the single thermistor in the freezer compartment. FAILURE! Now the fridge is too warm, the digital readout, set at 36ºF, but actually getting WARMER to 43ºF and rising. PLUS: Now the freezer compartment is getting warmer too! HELP!!! Is there another thermistor in the main compartment? What's going on?

1 Answer

Rob, There is a thermistor located in the control housing of the refrigerator section. This would be the most likely cause for this issue and will be part number 12002355

Marcus, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty damper assembly with there being a freezing issue in the refrigerator section.

Stanley, THE FRZR TEMPERATURE THERMISTOR 12002355/12002355 Thermistor Kit will work in your Sears/Kenmore refrigerator. You didn't specify the issue with your freezer so, THE FRZR DEFROST THERMISTOR IS PRT # W10316760/W10316760 (just in case). Thanks

Hello Richard, The thermistors should read 5kO at 77°F, 6.2kO at 68°F, or, if they are down to temperature, they should read about 36.4kO at 5°F or 48.4kO at -4°F.
