The High Limit Thermostat is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is a safety device that monitors the temperature inside the dishwasher and cuts off power to the heating element if the water temperature exceeds safe levels, preventing overheating and potential damage.

Causes of a bad high limit thermostat can include normal wear and tear, exposure to high temperatures, or electrical faults. A faulty thermostat can prevent the dishwasher from heating water correctly, affecting the cleaning performance.

Symptoms of a bad high limit thermostat include:

  • Dishwasher not drying dishes properly
  • Dishwasher not completing cycles
  • Water not heating up during cycles
  • Error codes related to temperature issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool High Limit Thermostat (Part Number: OEM18050235)

Chad for Model Number KUDS35FX

I have a KitchenAid KUDS35FX dishwasher that I suspect the thermostat has gone bad. My dishes wash, my wash water is hot, but when it goes through the drying cycle, there appears to be no heat, and the dishes at the end are still very wet. I have seen the red drying light during the cycle, so I don't believe it is an issue with the control board not moving through the cycles. At the end, the sanitized light also blinks at a fixed rate indicating there was an issue with the cycle. I already replaced my heating element, but that made no difference, I still have the same problem. From what I can tell, the next logical step would be to find and test or just replace the thermostat. The problem is that while I can identify it on the parts diagram on the website here, I have had no luck in locating it under my dishwasher. Is there a guide or any documentation available that describes how to replace this part on the KitchenAid?

Pete for Model Number KUDE70fxss3

Water is 100 degrees. Here is what I've done. I checked the water coming out of the tap and it's 120. I checked the element with an ohm meter and it was good. I tested the element during drying cycle and it worked. I tested the thermostat with an ohm meter and it was fine. I put the thermostat on a griddle that was 150 and when it hit the 150 mark the thermostat broke the circuit as expected. After all of this I assumed it was the control board. So I purchased a new control board and put it in...still same issue. Water level looks good as per the tech sheet. Water comes up to the bottom of the element. Where do I go from here?

Hello Pete. If all parts test good, you have to have a wiring issue with the unit. You will need to test all the wires on the unit for bad connections or breaks.
