Tony October 02, 2020 for Model Number KDTE104DSS0 My dishwasher is not heating up water or drying. I have continuity in the heating element though it looks pretty warped. I pulled the thermostat and it is showing closed under normal conditions. When I placed it on a heated pan (about 190°) it remained closed. Am I looking at a thermostat replacement here? Thanks.
1 Answer Tony, the hi limit thermostat is rated at 207 dgrs. F. at 190 dgrs.F. it would have remained closed(hold it in a pan of boiling water for a minute or so, and recheck it). Based on your description, you may want to check the water level in the center bottom of the tub should be at least 1/2 in. deep-(3/4 in preferred) if there's not enough water to properly circulate and "cool" the heater element it can warp. Matt September 14, 2020 for Model Number 665.12763K312 1st issue is that the heating element is too hot. it melts everything. 2nd issue is that the dishwasher leaks water from the bottom right corner every time we run a cycle. Which parts should I replace?
1 Answer Hello Matt, the heater element has a high temp limit thermostat WPW10195091 it is held against the bottom of the tub underneath. As far as the leak check the spray arms for cracks, splits, wear, esp on the spray arm outlet mountings, if ok the lower door seal is replaceable WPW10497235. Read More...
Bobby March 31, 2019 for Model Number KDFE104DWH0 My dishwasher is not heating the water at all. I have changed the thermostat (tested it and shows 0 ohms when at room temperature) and testing the continuity of the heating element (12 ohms). Not sure what else could be causing the issue, so can you advise on what other items could be causing the water not to heat?
1 Answer Bobby, With the thermostat and heater checking ok then this issue will be a faulty control board. Read More...
Darvin March 02, 2019 for Model Number WDT790SAYM3 The water is not heating and the dishes are not dry after the cycle. I replaced the thermostat and heating element and still not working. Purchased the parts from you. Is it possible the thermostat is defective? CAN i CHECK IT OR DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?
1 Answer Darvin, Test the thermostat for continuity and if it is good then this will be a control board issue and would need to replace part number W10595569. Read More...
Jon May 21, 2018 for Model Number KUDE48FXSS5 So I ran the diagnostics mode and when it finished no lights came on. What am I doing wrong? I replaced the thermister and heating element and dishes are still not drying.
1 Answer Hello Jon. If both are new, then the control board will need to be replaced if the unit is not drying the dishes. It should dry them unless the heated dry option is turned off. Then that will turn off the heater on the unit. Read More...
Jon May 15, 2018 for Model Number KUDE48FXSS5 How do you run diagnostic mode on a KUDE48FXSS5 dishwasher? It is not drying the dishes and I've already replaced the thermostat and heating element.
1 Answer Hello Jon. SERVICE DIAGNOSTICS NOTES 1 To invoke the Diagnostics Cycle, perform the following while in standby: ¦ Press Start key to wake up control panel. ¦ Press any 3 keys in the sequence 1-2-3-1-2-3- 1-2-3 with no more than 1 second between key presses. ¦ The Service Diagnostics Cycle will start when the door is closed. ¦ To rapid advance 1 interval at a time, press the Start/Resume key. Rapid advancing may skip sensor checks as some checks require 2 complete intervals. NOTE: While in the Diagnostic Cycle, the Start/ Resume feature is turned off (for example, Auto Resume after door interrupts) and the Start/Resume key becomes an interval advance key. ¦ Invoking Service Diagnostics clears all status and last run information from memory and restores defaults. It also forces the next cycle to be a sensor calibration cycle. ¦ Last run cycles and options returned to default (Normal cycle with Heated Dry option). ¦ Last run delay returns to the lowest delay increment. ¦ Calibration cycle may force an extra rinse to occur prior to Final Rinse (to assure clear water), then calibrates the OWI and the fill amount during the final rinse. ¦ Operating state returns to Standby upon completing or terminating the Service Diagnostics Cycle. 2 Turn on all LEDs immediately upon receiving the entry sequence (even if the door is open) and throughout this first interval as a display test. 3 Diverter will be on continuously in interval 14. In all other diverter intervals, diverter will only be on until it reaches the intended position for that interval. 4 Press Hi Temp key in this interval to clear customer error history. ¦ If Hi Temp key does not respond, the control panel is in “Sleep Mode,” open and close the door to wake up the control panel and then press Hi Temp to clear the customer error history. 5 Thermistor (temperature sensor) checks - turn clean LED on if thermistor is in its normal temperature range (32°F to 167°F [0°C to 75°C]). Turn sanitized LED on if fill temperature is above 85°F (30°C). 6 OWI (optical soil sensor) checks: ¦ Check OWI sensor for the presence of water during the 5 sec. pause in interval 16 and turn on the Clean LED in interval 15 if water detected. ¦ Check OWI sensor for presence of bulk soil during pause interval 13 and turn on the Clean LED in interval 12 if bulk soil detected. ¦ Drain until OWI sensor sees the presence of air or a max. of 1:52 during interval 5 and turn on the Clean LED in interval 4 if air detected. 7 DC Fan Motor is on during upper rack washing intervals. 8 Turn off all LEDs during pause prior to displaying error codes. 9 Pause to allow for cold first fill detection. Jon May 11, 2018 for Model Number kude48fxss5 My dishes are not getting dried. I have replace the heating element and the thermostat, but the dishes still do no dry. The drying light does come on for the expected amount of time but still no dry dishes. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
1 Answer Jon, You will want to make sure that you are using a rinse aid and if you are and still not drying then also make sure that the dishes are not being left closed overnight. This could cause moisture to recollect on the dishes. If this is not the case then either the vent is not opening or the control board is the issue. Read More...

Ted January 05, 2017 for Model Number WDT790SAYMO I'M NOT ABLE TO LOCATE THE THERMOSTAT BY THE PUMP. COULD IT BE LOCATED IN THE CONTROL PANEL?
Paul February 09, 2016 for Model Number WDF750SAYW3 My whirlpool dishwasher has been having issues cleaning the dishes. I ran the diagnostic mode on it and I'm getting a calibration error on the OWI (turbidity sensor) and an error saying the dishwasher automatically shut off the heater because of an error. My guess is that since the OWI also houses the thermostat for the dishwasher that when the calibration fails the heat gets shut off. Does this sound right? How would I test the sensor to see if it is the cause of my problem?
1 Answer Paul, You can test the thermistor in the OWI by accessing the control board and go to the P12 connector and disconnect it from the board. Test pin 1 to pin 3 for 46K to 52K ohms of resistance at 77 degrees. If the resistance is not correct then replace the OWI and yes this OWI being faulty will cause the heater to not work. Read More...
