The inlet valve is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool refrigerators. Located where the water line attaches inside the fridge, it controls input flow into the ice maker and water dispenser components. A reliable inlet is necessary for these features.

Causes of a faulty inlet valve can range from water conditions like excess minerals collecting inside to wear from repeated valve openings.

Symptoms include:

  • Ice maker or water dispenser not working properly
  • Water leaks inside the fridge compartment
  • Restricted flow not allowing full ice baskets or glass fills

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

David, The water valve would be the most likely cause for this issue. It sounds as though the water valve may not be closing all the way allowing the fill tube to freeze due to seeping.

Rob, You will need to remove the rear panel in the freezer and under the evaporator there is the defrost drain trough. You will need to clean out all the ice and then flush the drain with hot water to clear the obstruction.

Hello Marlin. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
