No one in my local area repairs LG refrigerators for some reason. I talked to a tech who doesn't repair LG but gave me good advice and said the PCB main board is probably bad. So I called appliancepartspros.com and ordered one. Came in the next day and fixed the problem. Save a ton of $$ because I was frustrated and was just going to be a new fridge. $225 fix good as new.

This project was fairly easy. All I had to do was unplug my refrigerator and remove the power supply unit located at the bottom of the refrigerator and replace it with the new one. Installation was easy. First you remove one screw to access the tray which you then pull out and remove 3 plugs connected in the back. The new replacement power unit comes with its wire harness and after you plug in the proper plugs into the power unit inself, the remaining 3 plugs will plug in to the refrigerator....

At first I read the error code as 5Y CE. Googled that and found a number of distressed pleas for the same interpretation. Finally I found a technician/interpreter of mysterious codes who enlightened me: SY CE means there is a communication error between the display board and the main power control board.
Meanwhile, we had unplugged it, waited 10 or 15 minutes, then plugged it back in, The refrigerator responded like a computer reboot and started working again. No error code! We bump knuckled...

Evaporator fan would not run. I replaced the evaporator fan, but that did not fix it until i replaced the main board (power board). the board is underneath on the left side with one screw holding it. I figured there was only one main board but there are multiple; you have to read descriptions to get the correct one.
