The Ice Dispenser Lever is an OEM component specifically designed for Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerators with built-in ice dispensers. Located inside the ice and water compartment, the lever is responsible for releasing cubed or crushed ice when engaged. Symptoms of a bad ice dispenser lever include:
Causes of a bad lever can be worn gears or connector linkages inside the ice dispensing mechanism from repeated use over time. This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, and select Kenmore fridge models.
I replaced the Ice Dispenser Lever. Since the replacement part is only available in white and my fridge is bone, I replaced also the Water Dispenser Lever, so it looks much better. I followed the instructions in the video, which were very useful and very well done. My problem was that the refrigerator is a KitchenAid built-in, while the instructions were for a Whirlpool, so the removal of the faceplate was quite different from what was shown in the video and more difficult. I replaced the start relay and overload switch with the single part Overload/Relay part number AP3119971. Now it operates like new. Had no problem replacing part, just followed instructions. Removed the back cover to access the fan area. Clean the area with brush and vac first. Unplugged the Refrigerator. Used a socket set with 1/4" socket. Had an extended and a standard socket. Removed the condensate plastic drain from the bottom of the refrigerator to have more access to the fan. Unplugged the fan motor. Removed the two screws holding the fan in place.
