Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Deep freezer was tripping gfci outlet every day   Bryan K. • Aubrey , TX • November 29, 2014

I determined that it was a problem that occurred during the defrost cycle by resetting the GFCI outlet and forwarding the defrost timer until the defroster came on. Once the defrosting began, the GFCI outlet would reliably trip. I took apart the shielding inside of the freezer and tested the defrosting without the heating element or the thermostat connected. Since that looked good, I tested for proper functionality of the thermostat by removing it, placing it in a working freezer, and checking... Read more

Control Board
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP2304016

This replacement part is a control board for an ice maker. Control boards serve as the main computer that controls the functions of the ice machine. Before installing this part, unplug the ice maker and pull it away from the wall. Then unthread screws of the access cover to the control panel. Use a putty knife to pry the cover off and proceed to remove the screws securing the top panel. Use a nut driver to remove the rear panel. Lift the top panel up and have someone hold it upright. Remove the screws that hold the control housing on the top panel. Once control housing has been released, remove the screws securing the grounding wire to set the panel aside. Then with a Phillips head screwdriver, unthread the screws that hold the control board. Depress the tab to release the board. Note the orientation of the wire connectors and disconnect them from the board. Re-secure the wire connectors to their correct terminals and pop the new control board back in place. Reinstall the panels that were removed. This genuine replacement part is a control board compatible with Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Sears/Kenmore brand ice machines.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The compressor was not activating therefore the machine was not making ice   Cassidy K. • Cornelius , NC • May 13, 2014

I had to replace the control board. The repair estimate from a local appliance company was $530.00. So I decided to order the part here for $200 and do the installation myself. Everything on the control board is "plug and play" and very simple ONCE you have access to it. However, gaining access to the board is the tricky part. Unless you have the long enough tools, it can be a real challenge. I had to first remove the water drain unit. Next, the ice cutting wire cover. Then remove the ice... Read more
