I unplugged the fridge and took all the food and shelving out of the freezer and then proceeded to take off the bottom sliding drawer rack on both sides off (4 Phillips head screws). Then took off the light bulb cover and then the light bulb. Then the back wall that covers the coils and tubes that the refrigerant runs through ( 2 screws with hex head). The indication was that when I tried to use the icemaker or water dispenser, the green LED on the front would dim and the ice maker dispenser wouldn't work. It was intermittent at first, but this indicated it may be a power management issue, in that insufficient voltage was getting to the ice dispenser motor. We replaced the main circuit board and the LED started to work and the condenser fan worked, but all we had were relay clicking sounds, but no cooling. The compressor had become so hot trying to work when the main circuit board was amiss, that it had popped the over temperature sensor on its side. I replaced the water inlet valve. The toughest part was closing off the feed line while I waited for the valve to be delivered. The needle valve used to install the feed line wouldn't close completely. I ended up fabricating a plug from some parts from the hardware store. The mounting bracket on the new valve was completely different from the original, but it still mounted easily enough. Pop out the old switches with a putty knife pressing down on the tab, grabbed with pliers to pull out, disconnect the wires and connect new switches, pressing back in place. Read more

I changed the motherboard - computer and also changed the motor in the freezer, because it was doing a howling sound every time it turned on. GE bottom freezer icemaker stopped working for the 2nd time. Refrigerator bought in 2008, replaced (first time) icemaker in 2009 by GE tech for $450, after 7 years 2nd ice maker failed I decided to attempt replacing the icemaker myself. Purchased a replacement icemaker that comes as a kit. I replaced the water valve and the icemaker unit with in 30 minutes and I had ice the next day. Easy peasy for less than $140.
