GE profile cooktop problems: dirty switch seals in glass top shorted infinite switch broken selector switch missing knob Hugh A. • Weaverville , CA • March 06, 2019
My cooktop repair was a total success from start to finish. I reviewed and later followed the APP repair video, which helped me decide if I wanted to tackle the repairs and guided me right before I started. The APP phone staff member was very helpful verifying the parts I had identified online using the model number of my older GE Profile cooktop to locate and view the correct online exploded view diagram. I told him it was a pleasure working with him. The parts arrived within 3 days of...

- Disconnect power and shut off gas before servicing
- Remove the burner knob and access the valve/switch at the manifold
- Note wire positions and transfer one at a time to the new switch
- Ensure the switch seats on the valve stem and test for proper spark before reassembly

Clicking from ignitor mode would not stop after burner lit Jeffrey Maclachlan V. • Nederland , CO • September 03, 2017
Turned out the little switches on the knob shaft had corroded and were staying on. There was constant continuity showing with an ohm meter. Replacing the switches was very easy (always disconnect power to the unit before servicing). Bought a new ignitor module as a backup as they do go out of production after 10 years or so- another cheap and easy fix if needed in the future.

This gas valve assembly controls the flow of gas to the appliance's burners so they ignite and maintain a steady flame. Replace a failing valve to address ignition problems and restore normal heat delivery. What it does:
- Regulates gas flow during ignition and operation to maintain consistent burner flame
- Enables burners to light when the ignition system calls for gas
- A faulty valve can cause burners to fail to light, produce a weak or uneven flame, or result in repeated ignition attempts
- If you smell gas, stop use immediately and follow safety guidance — do not try to power or test the appliance
What's included: One gas valve assembly Install notes:
- Turn off the appliance power and shut off the gas supply before starting work; if you detect a strong gas odor, leave the area
- Basic hand tools may be required; gas and electrical connections must be properly tightened and sealed
- Follow the manufacturer's installation instructions and local codes
- After installation, check for leaks using an approved leak-detection method and verify proper ignition and operation
