After figuring out this had nothing to do with "dogs" as most videos suggested (I don't even think this agitator has them.) I determined that the two part upper had worn down connector clips (I'm sure there's a proper name for them but I never saw anything that described this problem) I simply followed the online video for removal of the upper agitator and put the new one on. A word of caution though. There is a metal and a rubber washer under the bottom nut that you'll need to salvage...
