I couldn't figure out how to remove the original timer, but found a YouTube video from someone who had the same problem and finally figured out the easy step for removing the original timer (the timer knob is threaded and is removed by unscrewing the timer knob itself whereas the other knobs just pull off). I took 11 year old washer apart, by watching step by step instructional video on this site. Found the problem & order the part (inner tub,shaft & spider). It's a shame you can't just order the spider, because the stainless steel tub & shaft were still perfectly good. Apparently, this is the manufactures way of making money. Ordered a replacement timer for my 17 year old Gibson washer. It was delivered in 2 working days. I installed it myself at home, a home project which I am NOT hesitant to undertake.
