Found on-line troubleshooting guides. Checked motherboard, showed infinite ohms on heater/thermostat circuit. Took apart freezer compartment, found defrost heater element was toast. Got parts from Appliance Part Pros. Use their How-To videos and parts diagrams to replace heater and gasket. Put freezer back together, and refrigerator got cool. Read more

First I called GE to get the part numbers and price. The cost would have been $92 ordering from GE. I searched online and found AppliancePartsPros and ordered the same parts for $65. They were delivered within two days. I am very happy to have my refrigerator fixed as these two broken parts prevented me from using the bottom two drawers of the refrigerator. I don't think it is good that GE makes their refrigerators with plastic parts that can break. Read more

The repair videos were VERY helpful. Took off the inside freezer panel and defrosted the coils. the frig worked great while I waited for the parts to be delivered. Next replaced the defrost element and thermostat. Replaced the waterline to the Icemaker. It was as easy as the videos showed. Could not get the water line out of the door and the part did not look the same. So I called the helpline. Found out I needed to remove the freezer door inside panel. Did so and replace the line.
