The Spark Module is an OEM part for GE cooktops. Located within the cooktop's control unit, this module is responsible for generating electric sparks to ignite the burners. Consisting of electronic components and wiring, the spark module works with other systems to reliably and safely light the gas or electric burners.
Symptoms of a bad spark module include:
Causes of a failed spark module can be exposure to moisture, dust or debris accumulating inside the control unit over time as well as mechanical or electrical degradation of the ignition components.
This genuine OEM GE replacement part is also compatible with some Kenmore cooktop models that use GE's control systems.
Ordered the correct size drip bowls (All drip bowls have the same outside diameter but different (small, medium or large) inside hole diameters.) Removed 5 knobs by pulling straight up. Removed grate, burner cover, and burner from each of the five burners. Unscrewed two hold down screws from center of each drip bowl. Removed the cover for the built-in cooktop and replaced the harness switch. Read more
Had to replace the igniter module. Some key things I came to learn: 1. If you remove the bottom drawer, you can find an envelope there that is for the technician. It explains some things about how the igniter senses the flame, and some advice about diagnosis. 2. The igniter module on my model of slide-in range is located inside a box that is visible when you remove the bottom drawer. No need to slide the range out. 3.
