After a little research it seems that the control panel on these KitchenAid/Whirlpool dishwashers is problematic. I was able to reboot/reset the dishwasher as well as run a drain cycle using the cancel button so it seemed everything else was functioning. Based on a comment I read that mentioned something along the lines of "We see allot of failures with this part and it's common" I ordered it.
